We did not skip the straw poll because we had better things to do on a beautiful, Texas summer day. We simply did not show up because our party leadership talks the talk, but they absolutely have refused to walk the walk. We decided that we were not going to go to the party if we knew we’d be leaving with a hangover. America is demanding change. America is demanding the core values of the Republican Party. Americans just aren’t convinced that we know what those values are.
Ron Paul knows what those core values are and he has been walking the walk for 10 terms representing Texans along the Gulf Coast. Ron Paul has been against this war in Iraq from the beginning. Asserting that if Iraq poses a threat to America, we should declare war, win it and come home. We should not violate the Constitution and make the president the decider on who we are at war with and we certainly should not be going to war to enforce U.N. resolutions. He has never voted to raise taxes. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget. He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership. He has never voted to raise congressional pay. He has never taken a government-paid junket. He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch. He voted against the Patriot Act. He voted against regulating the Internet. He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program. He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year. If we do not recognize Ron Paul as the epitome of the Republican Party and seek out more officials like him, we will certainly get change; it just will not be the change that America is demanding. Ron Paul is the hope for a true Republican Party. Ron Paul is the best hope of true change for Americans.
