Dean: Gen. James Jones' Report Shows We Need to Change Course In Iraq
Edited on Thu Sep-06-07 06:47 PM by bigtree

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic National
Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement in response
to Gen. James Jones' report on the situation in Iraq released today in
conjunction with his testimony before committees in the Senate and House of
Representatives:

"General Jones' report on the weak state of Iraqi security forces is
one more sign that President Bush's strategy in Iraq is not working. Our
brave men and women in uniform have done everything we've asked of them,
but only the Iraqis themselves can achieve the political progress necessary
to sustain peace.

"While Democrats are eager to hear from General Petraeus and Ambassador
Crocker next week, there are clear signs coming out of Iraq that political
reconciliation is not occurring. President Bush and his Republican allies
want to cherry-pick the facts, but the way forward is clear. It's long past
time to change course in Iraq."

1. Can someone please explain what changing course means exactly?
I mean there are phrases that mean absolutely nothing to me such as furbing or furbish, even though I kinda know what refurbish but not really. Then there is caucus. I don't know what a caucus is and I don't think I want to know. I sort of believe it is a pretend word. There are dozens of such words that I feel don't have a place in any society but right now those are the only two that come to mind.

So again, does changing course mean killing less people who are only in the streets because we invaded their country and left them unemployed or does it mean turning left at most major intersections instead of blindly turning right in spite of all the road signs that warn not to along the way???

2. That may sound good to play off of that phrase in opposition to the occupation
but Dean has been clear and open about his intentions for our country regarding Iraq. He's called repeatedly for an immediate withdrawal. It would stand to reason that's the change in course he's referring to.
