Am I missing something? Or just plain stupid?

1. Nah, everytime bin Laden shows up it's highlights Bush's failure.
What I don't understand is, if people think it's faked, why didn't anybody bother putting gray in his beard?

2. I agree, for the Dems it highlights the repukes failure
But the brain-dead repukes, it seems to reinforce their little fantasy of the terrorists would get us except for B*sh.

6. Scaring people to death with the bogeyman worked
just a scant three years ago. Remember the weekly terra alerts right before the 2004 elections?

People are finally wising up to this stuff and realizing there wouldn't be any more of those scary tapes if Stupid hadn't pulled the military out of Afghanistan and off the hunt for bin Laden to go chasing oily glory in Iraq.

Unfortunately, it's still even money whether a faked terra attack would work in their favor or to highlight their incompetence. It would have to be an awfully convincing one.

4. In their twisted worldview
they use it to say: look out! De boogeyman is still out there! You need us to continue raping your civil rights or he's gonna git ya!

Never once understanding the irony or their own failure to capture this so-called villain.

5. No, you are not stupid. I thought the exact same thing.
Remember the "surprise" (ahem) tape of Bin Laden that surfaced right before the 2004 election?

(I swear, Bushco have a stockpile of such tapes that they release at opportune times.)

People made comments like "Oh, that tape really hurt Kerry."

WHAT?!!?

How the fuck could the fact that Bin Laden is STILL roaming free, mocking the U.S. in his goofy-ass video tapes, hurt ANYBODY but Bush? If anything, it HELPED Kerry. It's like "Hello, Bushco have failed MISERABLY at finding this terrorist. He's still out there after all this time, making tapes, and poking fun at Bush's inability to find him."

The 2004 Bin laden tape should have been the final nail in the coffin lid of the Bush Presidency. (It probably was, but it would be off topic to start in on the massive fraud that took place, so we won't go there for now.)

Who with a brain cell to their name does not see the fact that Bin laden is still roaming free as anything other than a colossal failure on Bush's part?

7. Good question.
It seems fair to say that Usama bin Laden means different things to different people around the globe. Your question focuses on the possible influence a new video might have within the United States, especially in regard to potential benefit for republicans. It's a great question.

When we look at various groups, it seems it would only benefit republicans with voters who believe that George Bush is making the US a safer place. They tend to point out that there hasn't been a repeat of 9-11 since 2001 as the central point that supports their reality. An Usama bin Laden video will cement their beliefs. Of course, they are frequently the concrete thinkers who are still convinced that the war of occupation in Iraq was "revenge" for 9-11, and to protect us from the WMD that the administration told them was in Iraq.

For democrats, the video will likely be viewed as evidence that this administration has failed in its duty to protect this country, and to bring UbL to justice. It will reinforce the utter stupidity of the invasion and continued occupation of Iraq.

That would seem to leave those potential voters who do not belong to either party, as well as republicans with IQs over 20. I do not think that such a video will cause a groundswell of support for the Cheneyites, or the republican primary contenders who seek to manipulate the public with fear and ignorance.

8. According to Ron Suskind, CIA analysts concluded that the 2004 video was intended to help Bush win.
I don't know what might be concluded from this appearance since the text has not been released yet.

11. I am guessing there will be a false flag on Sept 11
but not in this country.

Our 'leaders' will blame it on al-Queda, and Fox has probably already been told to drag out the ole "UBL's video was a signal to his warriors" explanation.

12. Easy
Hes going to say, Keep up the fight in Iraq my terrorist friends.

So of course the MSM will say "If we leave Iraq, Bin laden wins"

Of course his apperance will coincide with The Path to 9/11 beginning released on DVD.

So Clinton will be blamed.

The Politics of News Media
from the book
False Hope
by Norman Solomon, 1994
--------------------------------
Popularized renderings of reality, however phony, supply us with shared illusions, suitable for complying with authorized itineraries, the requisite trips through never-never lands of public pretense. Privately, we struggle to make sense of our experiences; perhaps we can create some personal space so that our own perceptions and emotions have room to stretch. But the limits of privatized solutions are severe. Public spheres determine the very air we breathe and the social environments of our lives. The standard detours meander through imposing landscapes. Beyond the outer limits of customary responses, uncharted territory is "weird"-certainly not familiar from watching TV or reading daily papers. Following in the usual footsteps seems to be safer.
Confusion about politics and power denies us clues as to where to go from here. Anne Wilson Schaef has identified pivotal results of such confusion:
" First, it keeps us powerless and controllable. No one is more controllable than a confused person; no society is more controllable than a confused society. Politicians know this better than anyone, and that is why they use innuendos, veiled references, and out-and-out lies instead of speaking clearly and truthfully.
Second, it keeps us ignorant. Professionals give their clients confusing information cloaked in intimidating language that lay-people cannot understand. They preserve their "one-up" status while preventing us from learning about our own bodies, our legal rights, and our psychology.
Third, it keeps us from taking responsibility for our own lives. No one expects confused people to own up to the things they think, say, or do, or face the truth about who they are.
Fourth, it keeps us busy. When we must spend all our time and energy trying to figure out what is going on, we have none left over for reflecting on the system, challenging it, or exploring alternatives to it.
These have the combined effect of keeping us stuck within the system. And this, I believe, is the primary purpose of confusion. A confused person will stay within the system because the thought of moving out of it is too frightening. It takes a certain amount of clarity to try new things, walk new roads, and cross new bridges, ~ and confusion makes clarity and risk taking impossible."
Mass media encourage us-viewers, listeners, readers-to suspend disbelief, willingly or otherwise. Stalked by propaganda wolves in chic clothing, we are the intended sheep. Conformity is disguised with appearances of diversity-just as silence about what matters most is in no way inconsistent with constant verbiage.

14. I have to say that when Bin Laden does anything - Bush's ratings go up - its
just like peanut butter and jelly - they will always be bound together.

BL's very name invokes memories of 911 as does an image of Bush in his windbreaker at "ground zero" calming our fears (except he ran down the "Bush hole" for the scariest part of the day and didn't surface until the coast was clear.)

18. Usama's appearance has an instant fear reaction.
Logic is not engaged. It's emotion. The RWing is clever & diabolical. Never under estimate the evil of the RWing.

Dems want to compromise with the RWing & The Regime. Dems are either stupid or complict OR both. Compromise is not in the RWing arsenal.
