Latest report from IAEA on Iran
Latest report from IAEA on Iran

http://www.dennis4president.com/go/newsroom/latest-report-from-iaea-on-iran%3a/

WASHINGTON, D.C. – "A new report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) indicating that Iran is cooperating with the nuclear watchdog agency and has agreed to provide additional information about its nuclear enrichment activities “should give serious pause to those who are beating the drums for possible military action against that country,” Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich said today.

“If Iran is cooperating, it’s time for the President and others to stop ratcheting up the rhetoric regarding weapons, sanctions, and ‘all options are on the table’ so that we don’t get tricked into another war,” Kucinich said. “One war built on lies and deceptions – Iraq – is already one war too many.”

In its report, the IAEA noted that Iran was being unusually cooperative and had reached an agreement with the agency to answer questions about an array of suspicious past nuclear activities that have led some to suspect it harbors a secret effort to make nuclear arms.

The agency added that while Tehran's uranium enrichment effort is growing, the output is far less than experts had expected, according to published reports today.

"This is the first time Iran is ready to discuss all the outstanding issues which triggered the crisis in confidence," Mohamed ElBaradei, the IAEA director general, said in an interview with the International Herald Tribune. "It's a significant step."

In the interview, ElBaradei suggested that he would welcome a delay in the American-led strategy to impose new sanctions, saying, "I'm clear at this stage you need to give Iran a chance to prove its stated goodwill. Sanctions alone, I know for sure, are not going to lead to a durable solution."

The agreement between the IAEA and Iran laid out a timetable aimed at resolving the nuclear issues, under investigation for four years, by December. By then, ElBaradei said in the interview, the agency will know whether Iran is seriously committed to cooperating.

He also acknowledged that his report is putting him at odds with White House officials and others who are accusing the United Nations’ agency of operating outside its mandate by striking a deal with Tehran. "My responsibility is to look at the big picture. If I see a situation deteriorating and it could lead to a war,” ElBaradei said, “I have to raise the alarm or give my advice."

“The IAEA should be commended for the progress it has been making in working out reasonable terms with Iranian officials and applauded for recognizing that saber rattling and oppressive sanctions constitute seriously dangerous policies in a region already in conflict,” Kucinich said. “Caution and diplomacy need to replace recklessness and unilateralism.”

4. Of course not, they got away with it once and they'll do it again.
Our children will bear the brunt of this with increased terrorism and reduced services.

6. America needs Kucinich in the white house.
He is the one person standing up to the government that is controlling, abusing and destroying us average folks everyday! I think he could do the most good for the country out of our candidates right now.

8. Iran Nuke Moves Hint at Interest in Deal
http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=39171

"Iranian willingness to reach formal agreement in three separate meetings with ElBaradei in July and August to resolve all remaining issues on its past nuclear research by November was clearly aimed at moving the Iran nuclear dossier from the Security Council back to the IAEA and averting a military confrontation with the United States.

Based on Iran's own previous offers, such a deal would involve a guarantee against any nuclear weapons programme through an intrusive inspections regime, in return for an approved enrichment programme limited to a number of centrifuges well short of what would be required to produce nuclear weapons...

The argument that Iran cannot be allowed to have any uranium enrichment assumes that a sufficient number of centrifuges by itself would allow Iran to have the capability to build nuclear weapons. News media have routinely repeated the statement that 3,000 centrifuges could enrich enough uranium to make a bomb, provided the machines run for the requisite periods.

But ElBaradei observed in an interview with the Financial Times on Feb. 19 that even if Iran had 3,000 or more centrifuges operating, they could not go beyond 5 percent enrichment, which would be far below what would be required for weapons-grade uranium, as long they remain under an IAEA inspection regime.

In February 2006, ElBaradei suggested that Iran should be allowed a small-scale enrichment programme on Iranian soil in exchange for guarantees of no full nuclear fuel production that could be diverted for military purposes. Such an agreement would allow the international community to know with certainty rather than having to guess whether Iran is actually enriching uranium to weapons-grade level or not."
