9. Yep, I've known for some time that Bush's whole idea was to

ram in a whole bunch more troops and then say, "Wait, let's see how they do". Totally went against the Iraq Study Group recommendations, totally went against the former gernerals--now, why? Because the Dems took control of Congress, and Chimpy needed to ensure a way to keep the war going until he was out of office. So the trick was to throw 30,000 more in, and then say, it will be next year at the earliest before even these extra troops can come home, let alone the original force size. I think some in Congress saw this for what it was, and fought it in January, but the whole "Petraeus new strategy" thing, the whole Baghdad security project, the hail-mary pass aspect, was all a ruse or a sideshow to justify the escalation in force. All we did was dig in deeper--that's all we accomplished.
