State set to track almost all students
Thursday, September 06, 2007
BY JOHN MOONEY
Star-Ledger Staff

As most public schools open this week, New Jersey's 1.4 million students are being tracked more than they may realize.

State officials announced this month that virtually every public school student has been loaded into a new central database -- each with a secure 10-digit identification number -- that will allow the state to follow enrollment, test scores and reams of other data.

****

Millburn board of education member Joel Reidenberg has been among the most steadfast critics, trying to persuade his board not to join the system. The district even tually did join, along with all other districts in the Garden State.

"I have been a bit of a lone wolf on this," said Reidenberg, a Ford ham law professor and privacy expert. "Unless you have enough of a groundswell, it's hard. But I just don't think it has been public enough as to what's happening."

7. YES- a friend of mine sets up databases for recruiters for Chico State
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 10:41 AM by fed-up
There is a huge data base now accessible to recruiters

it is now self-serve and they can enter any search terms they want

need an engineer?

want 3.5 or better GPA?

want only seniors?

want only males?

want a foreign language student?

all info available with just a few mouse clicks

it used to be that the recruiters would make a request and then the data would be compiled and sent out, now the recruiters can access the database themselves

yes, big brother KNOWS ALL

direct target marketing (or whatever term applies here)

4. My question is when will Military recruiters be allowed to view the records?
When Johnny and Jane are 17 or seniors?

14 years of age?

10 years of age?

From the moment they start school?

With all the info they are putting in the system makes one wonder how such info will be used to manipulate a child.

5. Fits very nicely with...
Addington: "We're Going To Push & Push Until Some LARGER FORCE Makes Us Stop"

It's almost like a puzzle. Then the next question that comes up is...if the state, which theoretically is "the people", does this before making anything too public(although State officials apparently announced it earlier in the month), what would be the larger force that could stop it?
