Whether by design or not, he's got this fairly perfect image. (I laugh every time I think of the little joke on the Daily Show--they played a sort of choral/angel-y kind of sound and Jon said "That sound means that somewhere, Barack Obama has done something.") And his wife, who clearly loves him, is puncturing that image a little because people who love each other can tease each other.

All you need to do is read the piece in context, folks. Michelle Obama does not say her husband is "snore-y and stinky." She is using a rhetorical trope to explain her mother-daughter snuggle time, and why they have banished daddy from the girl-talk sessions. "Snore-y and stinky" is how little six and nine year-old girls talk. If Michelle Obama thought her husband were too snore-y and stinky to sleep with . . . um, I guess they wouldn't be married.

52. Heard an interesting take on this on a radio show.

They suggested that Michelle is trying hard to humanize Obama and keep him from morphing into an MLK or JFK-like figure. Obama is generating so much excitement that he risks becoming a symbol rather than just another candidate, and thus a target for attack.....and Michelle may be trying to keep that from happening.
