Poll question: All things being equal, who would you prefer as president?
Assuming the candidates all had the exact same positions, same resume, etc., who would you vote for?

about Justice Thomas?

I felt sorry for they guy when he was being chastized by the Senate at his confirmation hearing, but THEN he got approved, and my opinion of him has gone dow hill ever since! Every time I think it's a low as it can go, Clarence does something else that makes him worse!

who understands what sexism, racism, and homophobia do to people. And hopefully she would have a good, strong position against all forms of prejudice. Wouldn't that shake up business as usual. :)

Now, all other things being equal, i.e., besides the traditional biggies: race, gender, sexual orientation, etc., I'd go with a female lesbian African-American.

42. Eh, I'm really not sure why that justifies a ROFL. Or maybe you're just easily amused.
Obviously they're NOT exactly 'equal', at least in terms of genitalia and ethnicity. Nowhere up there does it say they're all the same religion or lack thereof. My point is, if people are going to make this choice based SOLELY upon which race and/or gender they'd like to see represented in the white house, as long as were going solely on superficialities, my choice is, all things being equal, I'd like to see an outspoken atheist in there.

44. Geez, Maybe I Really Do Need To Define 'Equal' For You LOL
Obviously, (or I'd think obviously to at least 99.99% of us), the all things considered equal thing would be applying to all those things left after race and gender. Obviously, (again, for probably at least 99.99% of us), their religious beliefs would fall into that category and be considered within the 'equal' equation. I think it's also pretty obvious that the OP explicitly stated all things being equal in order to avoid the nonsensical replies of "well which one thinks this way?" or "which one does this or that?". I laugh because there will always be those few that ignore the obviousness and post their little pet issue anyway.

So all things being equal, they'd either all be atheists or they all wouldn't be. Sheesh!

47. So now you're speaking for 99.99% of DU?
That IS Surprising. Will wonders never cease.

Actually, upthread theres a whole bunch of posts suggesting "she" should be a lesbian- now presumably if they're "all equal" to the extent you describe, they would ALL have to be lesbians, or gay, or something... The way I read it was, their positions on issues would be identical, not that they'd be clones of each other. But, really, whatever... None of it actually matters except that I do realize a small minority here is thrown into blind rages when they see the word "atheist".

"pet issues" and "nonsensical replies"? Oh, that's rich. You have here a thread where, by definition, one is supposed to be choosing a candidate on nothing except what most people agree ought to be superficial non-factors. From where I sit, the thing is designed to produce nothing but nonsensical replies--- based on pet issues.

Face it, Jack: It's a silly thread, to which I posted a deliberately silly reply, at which point you tried to lay an even sillier insult on me.

I suppose I'm the Silly Fuckin' King, now, for wasting any more of a Friday night on this.

So, here you go- if they were "all" atheists I would vote for the one who was the MOST atheist-y atheist of them all. The most balls-out atheist, the one who really, really, really, really didn't believe in "god" (whatever that word is supposed to mean) and whose insistence upon bashing Christians by making bigoted, Christian Bashing statements like "I don't believe in God" and "evolution is a fact" and "we should teach science in public school science classes" out loud exceeded all the similar anti-Christian intolerance expressed by the other ones..

...if these impossibly alike nonexistent cloned candidates who could never exist in real life were all equally strident in their person-of-faith-annoying atheism, I would vote for the one whose name started with an "A". You know, for "atheist". If none of their names started with an A I would pick the one who had the most "A"s in their name. If none of them had any As in their names, I would pick the one who had the most vowels, period, in their name. If none of them had any vowels in their names, I would look forward to the day when Fox Newscasters had to talk about "President Fxcvlk"

If NONE of them were atheists, fuck 'em. I'd write my OWN name in.

Got it? Good. Have a nice weekend.

if the candidates were clones of each other, but different genders or races? I think I'd vote for the woman or black man, just to give them a chance. That's sort of how I feel about the current race. I like all the leading candidates equally (though Kucinich is my first choice), so I'm leaning a little towards Hillary only because she's a woman, and I think gender is marginally more significant than race.
