Keith Olbermann Beats O' Reilly in 1st Half Hour Thursday!!!!!!!!!
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 04:15 PM by RamboLiberal
The 8pm Cable Picture Comes Into Focus
Last night, Countdown with Keith Olbermann came within 19,000 viewers of The O'Reilly Factor in the 25-54 demo. Countdown beat The Factor in the first two quarter hours. Countdown had 408,000 demo viewers from 8-8:30, The Factor had 373,000 (live+ same-day DVR).

In total viewers last night, O'Reilly still more than doubled Olbermann's audience.

Meanwhile, CNN is planning to launch former NBCer Campbell Brown into its 8pm slot in November.

Hello MSNBC - drop the E! Channel crap in the 2nd half hour and watch KO beat Billo's butt - just retain the worst person segment!

:toast: :applause:  :bounce: :patriot:

23. I agree
I think they should look at the reason the second half-hour isn't up higher--that's usually the one I turn off too.
I don't need fluff--the rest of the media gives that.

5. Better start that petition up again Bill-O
If Keith keeps doing this, you'll get a paycut..... er I mean, America will die a horrible death and Osama will start gay weddings at the local abortion clinic. Yeah, that's what you'll tell your audience.

6. Good news for Keith, very bad news about the awful Campbell Brown
Maybe she can have as her first guest the execrable Dan Senor, her husband. Rich, privileged folk eager to send other people's kids off to neocons' wars. Guess they just had one of their own. Maybe Mr. Senor will start thinking of other people's kids as human beings instead of playthings for George W. Bush. Oh, and if anybody thinks this is a critique of Ms. Brown because of her war-mongering husband, they need only listen to her pathetic performances on Meet the Press.

Maybe when she divorces Senor someday she can marry Glenn Beck, then CNN can have a "two-fer" of happy war cheerleaders.

8. CNN is stupid. Fuck Campbell Brown. Cafferty should have his own show.
CNN is a bunch of right-wing stupid fuckers since Turner sold the station. They are useless.

10. I usually stop watching Count Down
for the most part after the newsy, political part is over, but I always catch the Worst Person awards.

I hate the celeb reports and wish Keith would quit with that stuff.

My husband and I are both big KO fans, but we wish he'd stick to politics and discussions pertaining to real news.

12. Same. But I leave the channel for the remainder of the hour.
For those of us who grew up with real journalists like Cronkite, it's difficult to see entertainment thrown in.

But for polling purposes, I try to leave the cable turned to KO even though I am no longer watching.

It's hard to believe that we're even talking about beating O'Really ratings. It boggles my mind that the man is even on tv, let alone competing with someone of Keith's caliber.

America has a long way to go to recovery.

dropping because of that, I'd support the dumping of the dish. ;)

15. Apparently, you aren' the only one. If the first half hour keeps beating O'really,
maybe MSNBC will get the hint, and stop with the silly celeb stuff.

Could happen.

Or not...

Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 04:45 PM by mod mom
Sorry to Dan Abrams but he is kind of annoying. I would love to see Shuster with an investigative program that ties into blog folks.

24. Their shows about prisons don't impress me.
After Abrams, there are two hours of prison. I don't find that very entertaining. I don't find Hollywood gosssip very entertaining either.

Since it is always political season, maybe some biographies of the candidates and of previous candidates who did or did not win. I would like to know more about all of them. I would like to know who their first wife was and who their second wife was and who their third wife was and how many kids each of them has.
If they support Bush's war, I'd like to know how many of their kids are in uniform and participating in it. (Yeah, riiiight)
If they profess a religion, it would be nice to know just how much they participate in their local house of worship. (Like Bush being a born-again and never attending church.)
How have they matured in their basic beliefs (or flip-flopped) in the past years. I want the inconsistancies.
What are their weaknesses. What are their strengths.
What have they done besides politics? Were they sucessful at it?

In addition, give the candidates each 15 minutes to campaign in their segment. Have a different candidate each week. Rerun all of them the week before the first primary.

16. On the second half, after "Worst", David Shuster should "play" advesarial (sp?)
role to Keith's POV. David is a talented, smart guy. I would love for David to come up with whatever opposite (as bizarro as that might be, like a Repuke POV) and the two of them have at it. Just a thought....

17. Yep. If they would do the entire hour as hard-hitting as the first half hour, they would whoop
O'LIElly's ass! The only part of the 2nd half hour I like is The Worst Person In The World and his Special comments, when he does them.

I think it's an odd mix for a program. Hard-hitting politics and goof ball silly stuff following it? It just doesn't "fit" together.

If they want to beat O'LIElly, they need to change the last half of the show....

ARE YOU LISTENING KO AND ABRAMS???

20. They would probably claim the last half hour helps.
Anyway, this is a good start...let us see. If they'd just give KO another chance on NBC, and maybe advertise it a bit this time, before a regular-season football game, he just might attract even more viewers over to MSNBC.

As long as he stays there, he'll never have as many as the Bilious One, because MSNBC just isn't on as many cable systems. But the exposure on NBC sure didn't hurt.

22. KO is on NBC THIS Sunday before the Bears season opener game!
GO BEARS!

KO will be on EVERY Sunday Night BEFORE the Sunday Night football game, when there is a Sunday Night football game.

Maybe they'll have people begging them to put him on a regular NBC show, but if he left cable, NBC would tone down his show.:( That would be BAD. It would be a way to silence him.

26. I know he'll be on the pregame show, but I was talking about Countdown.
I don't want NBC to tone down his show. But I'm not entirely convinced they would. Not if it was popular as is.

Royal Caribbean cruise ship I was on last October. They had a feed for Fox and CNN, but not for MSNBC.
