Barack Obama Stinks!
At least, that's what Michelle Obama thinks. Jeesh, that's rough, your own wife thinks you stink.

It's actually a nice little article. Maybe too "fluffy" but then it is Glamour magazine, not exactly known for penetrating and in depth political coverage.

:bounce:

and yes, I'm an Edwards supporter, but I like Obama a lot too. It was a really tough call.

7. And hard to avoid too - he can't hardly use BHO, can he?
It happened again tonight, out in real life -- I had a chance to ask a couple of people in a political conversation if they knew what Obama's middle name was. They hadn't heard. One of them, a mild Barack-sympathizer, was instantly transported into gales of laughter and immediate realization that the good Senator is a no-hoper.

3. I thought it was sort of charming. That's the kind of thing that makes me feel like
these people are still human.

Bush's stupidity and incompetence don't make me want to sit and "have a beer" with him, as was so often touted in the last election.

But Obama's stinkiness and snoring are completely normal human realities. I don't think it diminishes his abilities - it just makes him a little bit more accessible.

Isn't that something John Kerry got destroyed over? His seemingly elitist and inaccessible persona and lifestyle?

It's past my bedtime...

8. She puts him down in public habitually. It gets less charming.
I have a friend whose husband has made jokes at her expense for the last twenty years. I've never liked it when he does it, and I dislike it when Michelle Obama does it. . . which seems to be frequently. Too bad. It's not a habit that wears well.

9. You Bring Up An Interesting Point
Edited on Sat Sep-08-07 11:05 AM by iamjoy
I'd never thought there may be latent hostility there. Although, it is a little different when a woman does it to a man than a man to a woman. That's in the same way that it's different when an African American uses the "N" word than when a white person does.

I prefer not to think of it as true hostility on Michelle Obama's part, though. Rather I see it as a reaction to the type of press coverage her husband gets. Until recently, most of it has been very positive, almost like, pardon the expression, Obama's crap doesn't stink. Even some of the criticism that has been launched at him has been so stupid as to barely justify a response.

So, here's Mrs. Obama watching her husband get elevated to near saint status and she picks up his dirty socks! She knows his crap does indeed stink! I can see how it would drive her crazy.

added on edit

Notice I said "different" that doesn't necessarily mean I think it's completely okay or that there's no problem with it.

10. It's to the point that I'm beginning to think it's deliberate and that she has no desire
to be First Lady.

4. She keeps him real.
I said during his Senate Primary that Michelle was every bit as formidable as a candidate as her husband. Her talk about his dirty socks and snoring keeps him on everybody's level. Him sitting on Oprah discussing his wife calling him in DC and asking him to bring home some ant traps does that same exact thing.

If I hadn't observed them here in Illinois politics, I might think it is a campaign strategy. It isn't. This IS how they are, from what I can tell.

Imagine that--Obama has morning breath! I swear that renders him unfit to be President!

5. as a male human, I recognize and accept the fact that I stink
I also know that I can mitigate the stink, as needed, to interact with others that don't recognize their animal nature. Christ! If I didn't stink, I'm not sure my cat would recognize me, cause she has to smell everything.

6. LOL
That reminds me, growing up we had a cat that loved to sleep on my brother's discarded socks and underwear. Nobody else's would do so I guess there is something to that male musk theory.

11. Sorry, but I think that comment was over the mark! I understand
her humanizing him by saying he doesn't pick up his socks, never washed a dish, or maybe even starts all the arguments we have. Those things do make him sound just like you and I. He stinks and my girls won't get in our bed if he's there is something else! I bet Michelle is regretting that one about now.
