Is anyone else reporting this? Has it been posted here already? Do they just want to frighten NewsMax readers?

CIA Director Hayden Warns of New al-Qaida Attacks

NEW YORK -- In a rare public address CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden warned of new attacks by al-Qaida:

"Our analysts assess with high confidence that al-Qaida's central leadership is planning high-impact plots against the U.S. homeland."

Hayden's unusual public address was made at his request at the Council of Foreign Relations.

The newly minted CIA chief also took the unusual step of making his appearance in military uniform, though as CIA director he is not on active military assignment.

Hayden's address appears to be part of a coordinated White House public relations campaign leading up to the 6th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks next week.

Hayden also told the Council that:

"Al-Qaida has protected or regenerated key elements of its homeland attack capability. That means safe haven in tribal areas of Pakistan, operational lieutenants, and a top leadership engaged in planning ... al-Qaida's success in planting operatives in this country, is less certain."

The CIA director warned:

"We assess, with high confidence that al-Qaida is focusing on targets that would produce mass casualties, dramatic destruction and significant aftershocks."

Details on these warnings were not given, though the general was pressed for them by the audience.

They're selling this nice thing for the next attack

1. What's the punchline gonna be?
"We have solid evidence that Al Quaida is receiving material and organizational support for these plans from Iran".

Just you wait and see.

I find this whole post very unsettling. These folks scare the hell out of me. I only hope I am being too sensitive or paranoid, but, on the other hand, I always expect a turn of events that will be really scary. I hope I am wrong.....

6. Nice to see
Hayden reminding us that we will be attacked here if we don't stay there for as long as the "decider" has decided we need to. Just in time for the "big" report from the General written by the White House I might add.

33. I couldn't find the quote by him; I only found one in Germany

Serious people in free societies are still grappling with how best to address the fight against terrorists in a way that is both effective in protecting our people and consistent with our liberal democratic principles and traditions. The exchange of ideas between our societies is building a stronger consensus on the way forward.

It's not hard to see increasing signs of this cross-pollination--and of a growing realization that we all confront a distinctly new type of threat. Germany's interior minister, Wolfgang Schauble, recently cast the situation in these terms:

"The fact is that the old categories no longer apply...The fight
against international terrorism cannot be mastered by the classic
methods of the police...we have to clarify whether our constitutional
state is sufficient for confronting the new threats."

It wouldn't surprise, because legal scholars described him as a loyal Soprano

13. Hayden: CIA Had Fewer Than 100 Prisoners
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iPMxKLv8VMTyTbkVgGpLC53w3lQg

He said media reports "cost us several promising counterterrorism and counterproliferation assets" because CIA sources stopped cooperating out of fear they would be exposed.

In one case, he said, news leaks gave a foreign government information that allowed it to prosecute and jail one of the CIA's sources.

But maybe, they KNOW that the next 9/11 is coming because they are helping stage and execute it, only the Loyalest of Bushies on THAT TEAM, don'tcha' know, just like Pat Tillman's murderer, now likely twice promoted?

And wow, crazy, even NewsLax admits this is a lie that is just a part of a big PR campaign.

Rare of them to actually slip and print truth.

That these RW sh*tbags keep using the f*cking word "HOMELAND". If people here take a moment to reflect on how the NAZIS garnered fear and political support, part of it was by promoting the aspect of the Aryan Homeland.

Just incredible. Pay attention to their rhetoric America! It's the new NAZI party and it's called Republicanism!

Stop and think about all of this: The presidential directives. executive orders, the patriot acts, loss of habeas corpus and posse comitas....up coming "exercises, Vigilant Shield 08, etc. Doesn't sound good does it? Then we get these little hints into future terrorists attacks.....????????

29. and this
During a question and answer session after the speech, General Hayden lamented that the Sept. 11 attacks have become a distant memory for too many Americans, giving rise to intense criticism of American counterterrorism efforts.

I hope they don't decide we need a firm reminder.

38. Hayden
doesn't like the fact that Americans have a problem with the use of torture? The Geneva Conventions are now anti-American?

This lecture on too much free press, unfair criticism of torture and ungrateful, complacent citizens comes from a man who has not been honest about 9/11. He is dishonestly making the case that the CIA must use Saddam Hussein tactics in order to prevent terror attacks. Look at 9/11. The CIA IG report shows that Tenet failed to do his job. Bush, Rice and Pickard didn't do their jobs. Hayden didn't do his job.

Yet Congress approved Haydens promotions to DDNI and CIA Director. Bush gave Tenet a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Rice got promoted to Secretary of State.

Terror attacks (like 9/11) could be prevented without trashing the Constitution and the Geneva Conventions if we had some above board officials in these important positions/offices. Instead we have corrupt officials who seem to think their oath to the Constitution means nothing.

41. *YAWN* Their assessments and analysis boil down to the same thing every year..
...and that is: September 11 is a good day for terrorism.

Maybe there is some truth to the thought that an attack on 9/11 will have more impact than on any given day, but the annual raising of the threat level is a lot like going to church only at Christmas.
It is safe to assume that if there is a terrorist potential, they would want to bomb us all year 'round and not just in September.

If this is the best the CIA can come up with (every year) then either they are as incompetent as they lead us to believe, or there simply isn't anything more exciting to report.

Of course the two options are not mutually exclusive.
