What would it take to make America sit up and take notice of the danger we're in?
What would it take for the average American to understand how little the corporations care for them, how they're simply disposable producers and consumers, nameless, faceless, and future-less?
What would it take to make Americans understand that for all their pretty words about "personal responsibility" and "fiscal sensibility" and "family values," the Republican Party actually cares nothing for these things and is only concerned with the acquisition of more power?
What would it take for Americans to finally grasp that we're all just people, with many of the same hopes, fears, desires, dreams, goals, and aspirations, regardless of the color of our skin, the origin of our forebearers, the name of our gods (if any), or the language of our heart?
What would it take for Americans to finally understand that the government is not something separate from them, but is actually something that is, itself, beholden to them? That they don't have the right to turn away from the decision making process and wonder why things are so screwed up?
What would it take for Americans to put aside false pride and embrace both our troubled history and our potential as a nation that can transcend the past and provide hope for the future?
What would it take for Americans to demand open and honest dealings from their government, and real news from their media, and true justice from their courts?
Who knows...
I wish I did.
