CIA Director Hayden warns of attacks. What's wrong with this picture?
The CIA director warned:

"We assess, with high confidence that al-Qaida is focusing on targets that would produce mass casualties, dramatic destruction and significant aftershocks."

Then, why hasn't the Department of Homeland Security raised the terror threat level? We are still on the watered-down ubiquitous 'yellow'?

2. I guess yellow means be a coward and orange means go to jail now.
And red is back to commie and blue is sad and green is envious.

What's the U.S. city most heavily populated with black people? That's what *Co will attack next.

3. Do you have a link? Does anyone have any time or know Paul
Thompson?

We need to get all this down in a timeline - right away.

It needs to include all illogical and unwarranted attacks on protestors, what they were charged with and whether there was any breech of law coming from the protestors.

4. These past two weeks and the two about to come seem so scripted.
Terra arrest in Germany, bib laden tape, cia director warning, next week: magic patreus report, bushler speech, congressional vote to keep funding endless war, and possibly a massive attack somewhere in the timeline. OK, i'm a conspiracy kinda nutjob, but why is so much of bushler's cabinet packing up and leaving? Why is the magic patreus report and all the rest of this centered around the 9/11 anniversery propoganda gala. I just wonder if we're really going to have this presidential election I keep hearing about. Just not feeling too warm and cozy right now.

5. Not ony that with all the money funneled to Homeland Security
and these agencies, where's a real terrorist organization they have caught. All the ones paraded before us have been a joke. I suppose they thought we were still "scared" to death and would accept anything they said....those that used to believe them, don't any more.

6. We don't know where...
We don't know how
We don't Know when
We don't know what
but we do assess...with high confidence... that sometime, somewhere, somehow, and in someway they are going to produce mass casualties, dramatic destruction, and significant aftershocks. We just know.

I believe there are far rightwing elements within our own gov't that would have no problem in killing mass numbers of Americans so they could somehow stave off political disaster the size of which the republican party has never witnessed before....

I believe they would allow a mass casualty attack or conduct one themselves..

Their track record of complete falsehoods, deceptions and criminal acts lead me to believe they need and want another 9/11 on a massive scale...

My distrust of the republican party, their lust for power and their corporate criminals' greed reassures my position...

22. I agree...
excerpts from the book
War Made Easy
How presidents and pundits keep spinning us to death
by Norman Solomon
John Wiley and Sons, 2005, pape
p39
On April 25, 1972, the White House taping recorded this noontime dialogue among President Nixon, White House press secretary Ron Ziegler, and Henry Kissinger
President: "How many did we kill in Laos?"
Ziegler: "Maybe ten thousand-fifteen?"
Kissinger: "In the Laotian thing, we killed about ten, fifteen. . .
President: "See, the attack in the North that we have in mind... power plants, whatever's left-POL , the docks .... And I still think we ought to take the dikes out now. Will that drown people?"
Kissinger: "About two hundred thousand people."
President: "No, no, no... I'd rather use the nuclear bomb. Have ' you got that, Henry?"
Kissinger: "That, I think, would just be too much."
President: "The nuclear bomb, does that bother you? ... I just want you to think big, Henry, for Christsakes."

Nine days later, while conferring with Kissinger, Al Haig, and John Connally, the president said:
"I'll see that the United States does not lose. I'm putting it quite bluntly. I'll be quite precise. South Vietnam may lose. But the United States cannot lose. Which means, basically, I have made the decision. Whatever happens to South Vietnam, we are going to cream North Vietnam .... For once, we've got to use the maximum power of this country ... against this shit-ass little country: to win the war...

10. Remember before September 11th?
When the CIA and the FBI just did their god-damned jobs, and didn't feel the need to reveal all their gut feelings?

As for this assessment, I think it has way more to do with politics than reality. If something happens - "We assessed!". If nothing does - "Well, we only assessed...". Asses covered either way.

16. That was one creepy speech
More recently, more than one foreign service has told us that, because of public disclosures, they had to withhold intelligence that they otherwise would have shared with us. That gap in information puts Americans at risk.

Those who are entrusted with America's secrets and break that trust by divulging those secrets are guilty of a crime. But those who seek such information and then choose to publish it are not without responsibilities.

I have a very deep respect for journalists and for their profession. Many of them--especially in the years since 9/11--have given their lives in the act of keeping our citizens informed. They are smart, dedicated, and courageous men and women. I count many of them as colleagues. We each have an important role to play in the defense of the Republic.

My point is, there are times when life-and-death issues are at stake when intelligence activities are the subject of press reports. Journalists, on their own, simply don't have all the facts needed to make the call on whether the information can be released without harm. I've heard some justify a release based on their view of the sensitivity of a story's content, with no understanding of the effect the release may have on the intelligence source at the heart of the story.

As I said, both journalists and intelligence officers have important roles to play in the defense of the Republic. A free press is critical to good government. But when the media claims an oversight role on our clandestine operations, it does so in an arena where we cannot clarify, explain, or defend our actions without doing further damage to our sources and methods.

26. I remember some analysis of Plame outing on this. If she did her job well, it would be harder to...
get a nuke out of Pakistan and over here or plant one in Iraq to make the WMD argument look valid (although one or a handful of nukes could never be used offensively against us without risking annihilation of his whole country).
