Someone mentioned it in the comments on another blog. I hadn't heard this. What's the story?

5. Seems early for that call, on her part, but a real possibility, I'd guess.

27. I've been predicting her as VP
on DU for the past two years. I even thought she would be named to replace Cheney after 2004.

I think the reason she won't run for reelection is she wants to be governor though.

I still think she's a natural fit for anyone's VP slot.

She was re-elected in 2006.

Just sayin'.

I didn't check that... It was just a rumor. It'd sure be nice not to see that smarmy holier-than-thou smile any more.

Thanks for clearing that up.

17. I miss Annie also...
“Poor George , he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.”

“I'm really glad that your young people missed the Depression and missed the big war. But I do regret that they missed the leaders that I knew, leaders who told us when things were tough and that we'd have to sacrifice, and that these difficulties might last awhile. They brought us together and they gave us a sense of national purpose.”

“Ann Richards on How to Be a Good Republican: 1. You have to believe that the nation's current 8-year prosperity was due to the work of Ronald Reagan and George Bush, but yesterday's gasoline prices are all Clinton's fault. 2. You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own. 3. You have to be against all government programs, but expect Social Security checks on time.”

“I've always said that in politics, your enemies can't hurt you, but your friends will kill you.”

She was a treasure.

16. I would love it if she were kicked to the curb.
Hopefully, we can take Cornyn out in 2008 and then turn our attention to getting rid of smarmy KBH in 2012. Ah, to have senators I respected! What a novel concept!

20. Mine are Salazar and Allard...
One a DINO and the other a Neocon parrot. Luckily we're getting rid of the parrot this year. Maybe this time we can elect a true Democrat for a Senator.

Why I'm Running

On July 4th, 1776, in the midst of the American Revolutionary War, the delegates to the Second Continental Congress passed a Declaration of Independence from England. The Declaration states that all people are “endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights”, rights that cannot and must not be violated. The signing of the Declaration was an act of treason under British law, carrying the threat of execution and utter ruin for entire families. Today we recognize this document as a celebration of patriotism and courage, and as the basis for our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Our Founders understood the critical importance of standing up to the abuse of government power, and we must not lose sight of the lesson they taught us.

It is in this spirit that my family, friends, and many colleagues have joined with me to form an exploratory committee for my candidacy to be the next United States Senator from the great State of Texas.
Why, after the first Independence Day I have spent at home in four years, would I risk a safe seat in the Texas Legislature, take a leave of absence from my job, sell property to lend money to a campaign, and ask my family to sacrifice while I travel the state for the next year and a half?

Because as Americans, it is our duty to stand up and speak when things have gone off the rails. It is in our very fabric, our soul; as heirs to the great legacy of this country, we must exercise our right to speak out as our forefathers taught us.

Edited on Sat Sep-08-07 04:38 PM by blogslut
And get his stance before the public, yes.

My hope is that Howard Dean will continue the 50 state strategy this election. Lord knows the DLC only cares about candidates they think can win.

The thing is, the people of Texas ARE ready for change. For example, did you know that Rick Perry won this last race with less than 40% of the vote? Chris Bell got almost 30% and if that damned Richard Friedman had not run, Bell would have received those 12.44% votes and he now would be our governor. My own congressman (Mac Thornberry) won again in 2006, but with almost 20% less than he got in 2004. Thornberry represents one of the reddest districts in the state. So losing almost 20% of voters is pretty darned significant.

Yes. I believe Noriega can win as long as the people of Texas are made aware that he is running and he is allowed to speak his views.

This morning, on the way to my daughters v-ball tourney, I saw a bumper sticker: "John Cornyn. U.S. Senate". :puke:

Oh, I hope Noriega can take him out! :patriot:

29. You'll enjoy reading this then
Though Texas is unlikely to leave the Republican presidential column this time, a pro-Democratic trend among Mexican-American voters could tip the balance of power in closely contested and minority-rich counties such as Harris. And it could create a competitive re-election race for Republican Sen. John Cornyn, possibly against state Rep. Rick Noriega, D-Houston, a Latino and Afghanistan war veteran.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5119809.html

And This Too...

Rick Noriega, who isn't running for Senate yet, stumps in DFW

By Steve Smith

DALLAS — Rick Noriega isn't officially running for the U.S. Senate, but you'd never know it by watching him yesterday.

He was here in the Fort yesterday afternoon for a lunch at Joe T's where he spoke to a group of 50 over enchiladas, picking up campaign contributions and the endorsements of Tarrant County State Representatives Lon Burnam, Paula Hightower Pierson and Marc Veasey before making his way through the rain to Far North Dallas for event at the home of Lenna Webb and Bob Franklin.

Noriega's had a good week for endorsements. Governor Dolph Briscoe, Lt. Gov. Bill Hobby and State Senator Rodney Ellis gave him their support, as did the Texas State Association of Firefighters. An endorsment from Daily Kos appears to be forthcoming next week.

Why the endorsements? Why are all of these people lining up behind him now?

Because in the reddest of red states, in the heart of maybe the most Republican state in the country, Rick Noriega looks like he can do the unthinkable: run as a Democrat for a statewide office and win. And after listening to him last night, I'm more convinced than ever.

http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2007/aug/31/rick-noriega-who-isnt-running-senate-yet-stumps-df/

Call him, write him, pledge your support to him. Hell, I've all but promised to do his laundry for the next ten years. Whatever it takes to get him to run.

For once I actually feel really good about a Democratic candidate for one of our US Senate seats. I really believe he can make this happen.

14. I could see her winding up on the GOP ticket
I'd say a Romney-Hutchison ticket is a decent possibility, especially if Hillary is the Democratic nominee. Yes, Hutchison has made some moderately pro-choice statements in the past, but I think that the GOP will overlook that, especially if Hillary is their opponent.

HUTCHINSON TO RUN FOR TEXAS GOVERNOR

I have it from an impeccable, inside source that Kay Bailey Hutchinson, senior U.S. Senator from Texas, is having meetings with moneymen to explore running for Texas governor. Ms. Hutchinson wants to get out of Washington and back home where she'll have more time with the two young children she and her husband Ray Hutchinson adopted in 2001.

Like the article you referenced asks, if it happens who could the Texas Dems run that could win? Especially with Cornyn up for reelection.
