MO Gov's Chief of Staff says any gathering of Latino workers "probably" includes illegal aliens
This is a story that is soon to break in other media outlets and CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES THAT GOV. BLUNT'S EFFORTS TO CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ARE AIMED AT RACIALLY PROFILING LATINOS IN MISSOURI.

Apparently, Ed Martin - Gov. Blunt's Chief of Staff - has stirred a lot of angry letters and sentiments because of comments he made in an August 17th meeting in front of the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC).

When speaking about workforce immigration policy, Martin reportedly said:

"I'll tell you what's available to every developer in order to figure out who's illegal. When there's a bunch of Mexicans out there, there's probably some of them who are not legal."

For some of you this might not be a big deal but what it means for any Latinos working in the construction field is that they are RACIALLY PROFILED SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY'RE WORKING A CONSTRUCTION JOB!!!

1. I have mixed feelings on this issue...
The husband of a dear friend of mine had a framing business for years. He finally had to go out of business because he was unable to compete with the cheap Mexican labor. He ran everything above board, with health insurance, paid all his taxes, workers comp, etc. After all that he was not able to make enough to provide for his family. He did first rate, quality work but was being underbid by cheap Mexican illegal immigrant crews. I don't know what the answer is but I do know the reality of his particular situation. The Mexicans will work for slave wages with no benefits and pay no taxes. They don't complain because they are here illegally in the first place. It's a bad deal all around.

3. I have a friend in the same situation

He is a dry waller. For many years, he was considered the best in the area. Now he is driving a truck.

But rather than demonizing human beings, I think the answer is strict fair wage laws and steep penalties against employers who violate these laws. My friend insisted on paying fair wages to his workers and the contractors who weren't that honest and fair drove him out of business. He is angry but not at the workers. The system is broken and needs to be fixed. Deporting people won't accomplish that.

5. In "any" group ?
By that logic, since so many murders in my city are committed by black men, then any group of black men is likely to include a murderer.

4. I suppose the issue isn't the fact of the matter, but rather the attitude it indicates.
