Let's fire up the Faux Outrage

Since when it was some sort of insult or crime here for someone to post HIS OWN OPINION about a candidate? I see posts all the time that decry attacks on other candidates, and ask for people to post something positive about THEIR chosen candidate.

Not that anyone really appreciates it when you do. Quite the opposite, apparently. An opinion piece no different in context and style from any other opinion piece anywhere else on the 'net spawns a thread deliberately intending to ATTACK the title of the post? The content of the body text isn't even addressed. It's all about the title, which was never meant to be anything but MY opinion.

Are you fucking serious? What the hell is wrong with people? Ascribing motives and intentions to someone else with NO evidence to back it up? Are some people THAT clueless about me even now, after two and a half years on DU? I don't have an authoritarian bone in my body. I have never tried to dictate SHIT to anyone.

What a bunch of crap.

For ME, Edwards IS the ONLY candidate that matters. At least of the ones actually IN the race. Either Gore or Clark would give him a run for his money, from my perspective. But I'm not talking maybes.

NOW I finally understand why some people have stalked off in anger, slamming the door behind themselves as they went. Deliberately misrepresenting a person's post title as a way to attack not only them, but their candidate, is just FUCKED UP.

Agree with the premise or not, I don't really care. I wanted a debate. But to have people pretending I was somehow trying to dictate to them is so out of line I'm left aghast. I don't expect people to fall in line agreeing with me. But I would expect some pretense of civility and not the deliberate manufacturing of outrage completely out of proportion to the situation. Putting words in my mouth? (Or, at least, at my fingertips?) Puh-leeze.

This is damn near the first time in my two and a half years that I've been this offended. I know bullshit when I see it. And this is bullshit.

I'm not going to name names. I know better. But this kind of behavior is simply unacceptable. A thread specifically created in order to attack me and my candidate, based on nothing more than the wording of the title of my post?

Fine. I hope I don't get tombstoned for THIS post, but, hey, if that happens, so be it.

3. "post something positive" threads are faux outrage to begin with

I posted a thread about an Obama event and the very first post was trash. That's what cracks me up about all those 'say something nice' threads. It doesn't work anyway.

I saw what you're talking about and thought it was ridiculous too. Don't take it personally.
