What agencies give awards to newspapers?
I know Editor and Publisher...what other organizations...especially for small papers?
I would like to see the editor of my local small-town paper win some kind of award for his impartiality on the editorial page.As you guys already know,My area is a high majority red,and yet the editor has printed 102 of my letters,as well as many others that the few liberals around here have written. He awarded a weekly column to my best friend, who is VERY left. These kind of things take courage and integrity, especially since I know he is a Republican.I'd like to see him rewarded. It's the right thing.

1. Most states have newspaper associations..
..that give awards in various categories for outstanding work.
There is also something called, if memory serves, the Inland Press Association that gives annual awards nationally, their name notwithstanding.
some local education and human rights groups around the country give awards...
i'll bet if you pick a phrase and google it you'll find more.
most of these DO give awards for excellent editorial pages, by the way..

3. columbia u.

more than an organization, which is third person and institutionalized, a warm personal letter from you, acknowledging and thanking the editor and publishers for recognizing their obligation to offer readers a full spectrum of views. personalized thanks like this is precious. but don't do it yourself, it'll look like quid pro quo. get your friends and neighbors to mail the letters.

4. Columbia Journalism Review
There's also the American Society of Newspaper Editors, and the Society for Professional Journalists. You might check out their web sites and see if there's any method for recommending your editor.
