Edwards' Cabinet list includes GOP names
Edwards' Cabinet list includes GOP names By RON FOURNIER, Associated Press Writer
Sat Sep 8, 2:34 PM ET

NASHUA, N.H. - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards carries a running list of people he might put in his Cabinet, and it includes "more than one" Republican.

"I want to be ready for when I get sworn in," the former North Carolina senator said between campaigns stops as he dug into a travel bag for the list.

"I might have it with me," Edwards told The Associated Press. "I wouldn't show it to you, but I could have it with me."

He didn't hand over the list, nor did he commit to putting Republicans in his Cabinet.

"No, because the test for me is not whether they're Democratic or Republican. The test is how competent they are and whether they're the best person for the job, and to make a decision about who's best to choose you have to spend time talking to them," said the 2004 Democratic vice presidential candidate.

Would he name a Republican vice presidential nominee?

2. Then Edwards can fuck off...
He gets the nom., then I will stay home.
If I wanted Republicans in high positions of power, I'd vote for the slimey bastards.

6. He hasn't said either way.How do you know if he even has really picked anyone?
This is just political "talk".And if he did pick a GOP cabinet member so what? Would you rather he pick someone soley based on their party like "Brownie" for FEMA?Would it be okay is someone like "Brownie " was a Dem? He is just saying he is interested in competence more than partisanship in the Cabinet.

19. Yeah, I'm serious....
Republicans are not to be trusted. If he really wants to associate with them, and allow them to continue fucking up the country in his own potential administration, he isn't worth consideration in my opinion.

Some Republicans are to the left of some Democrats.

Worked pretty well for him. There are good people on both sides of the aisle. I have no problem with him hiring the best person for the job no matter what their political affiliation.

7. Roosevelt as well -
but he wasn't a REAL democrat, so what do you expect.

No, he would not choose a Republican running mate - it's a stupid suggestion that nobody could take seriously. A a couple cabinet members, who are not in the immediate line of succession, I have no problem with that. They are not ALL incompetant and crooked.

8. The best cabinets to rebuild a country
are those that include people who are competent and who love their country

Chiefly, those are rare these days for the republicans, but I am sure if you dig far enough you can find them

10. No he would not nominate a Republican as a VEEP
but I am sure what he said has been standard practice across many an administration

Our current crop of radicals are the exception, not the rule

Two major examples for this

Lincoln, who even had political enemies in his cabinet

FDR, who also had a couple political enemies in his cabinet

LEARN A LITTLE HISTORY

It may do you some good

In fact, by that comment, Edwards is proving to have quite a bit of political savy and I may add... MATURITY

12. Exactly
We are not Republicans. I want my candidate to look for the best person for the job, not his crony. We've had enough of that.

14. FYI these radicals are not republicans either
and it is time to call them exactly for what the are

RIGHT WING RADICALS... in fact RIGHT WING RELIGIOUS RADICALS

FASCISTS

But not Republicans.

They have taken over the party, if you get my drift, and I do hope some SANE republicans take back their party too

15. It isn't unusual to have a token member of the
other party in a Presidential cabinet. Even chimp had Democrat Norman Mineta in his cabinet as Sec. of Transportation from 2001-2006. There must be a semi-decent, somewhat tolerable repuke who could serve as a cabinet member in a Dem administration. I admit, finding one wouldn't be easy, but it isn't without precedent.

Were a Democratic nominee to bandy his name about as a potential for his cabinet, I would not object.

24. There are NO Republicans who would be acceptable --
They're all vipers --

And, that includes Danforth, who told Clarence Thomas that he would support him thru the Anita Hill Hearings . . . even if what she said was true!!!

Danforth is one of the more disreputable Republicans --
