Looks like they are serious...

about keeping the DOJ as a private legal and political operation for the WH.

7. I hope Hillary gets to ask him some questions -
during confirmation. I think she can ask permission from the Committee. Also, bring in David Brock to testify about Ted's role in the ghost writing of lies for the Spectator/Scaife.

That could get interesting.

9. He won't get to Committee
Leahy has said that the Committee can't possibly know what to ask the next nominee until they get the answers they're seeking from the JD on warrentless wiretapping, the attny. firings, and other issues.

6. I hope his role in Ann Gorsuch being held in contempt of Congress is brought to light.
The guy has a horrible past.

As assistant attorney general to President Reagan from 1981 to 1983, Olson advised the president to claim executive privilege to block an investigation by congressional Democrats into the scandal-plagued Superfund program, based on assertions that later proved fatally false -- largely because Olson, apparently eager to force a political fight with Congress, failed to double-check key information.

11. GOP Floating Ted Olson, Head of 1990s Anti-Clinton ‘Arkansas Project,’ for AG
GOP Floating Ted Olson, Head of 1990s Anti-Clinton ‘Arkansas Project,’ for AG

If Attorney Gen. Alberto Gonzales resigns, we have proposed special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald or former Sen. Fred. Thompson as his replacement. Of course, we weren’t serious.
With all this baggage and a likely confrontation in the Senate, would Pres. Bush nominate Ted Olson for attorney general? The answer is sadly yes.

Now there is word that Republican officials in D.C. are seriously proposing Ted Olson to replace Gonzo. Digby asks, “Is this some kind of a joke?”

Knowing Ted Olson’s history, the answer is sadly no.

During the 1990s, the GOP ran a stealth disinformation campaign against the Clintons, the prototype for Swiftboating, out of the offices of the American Spectator, a rightwing magazine. Internally, the operation was called the Arkansas Project, but Hillary famously referred to it as a “vast rightwing conspiracy.” It was funded by Richard Mellon Scaife and its CEO was Ted Olson.

At the same time, Olson’s wife, Barbara, was one of a cadre of wingnut blondes — the others were Ann Coulter, Kellyann Fitzpatrick and Laura Ingraham — who were given untold hours of face time on cable news to bash the Clintons with rumors and innuendos ............

15. The biggest issue I have against Ted is in the publication of his dead wife's book
The book was full of unsupported insinuations, which could very well have been outright lies, which wouldn't surprise most that could see through the Olsen's wing of the neocon hate machine in action. The purpose of the book was to derail Hillary's Senate campaign. Ted's wife hated with a childish passion unmasked in the book, that left one wondering where all that hatred came from.

Poor journalism, deliberately deceptive issues purposefully aimed at defaming Hillary and perhaps harboring illegal slanderous and libelous statements - - perfect fodder for the wingnut lemmings - - maybe things like how the Clinton’s were talking over the review of some national treasures to steal for themselves. The author truly didn’t have a clue about this.

But by this time the Clinton’s were probably so used to the neocon’s verbal attacks that they probably felt extremely sorry for the dead woman.

I wonder how many tangibles Ted earned off this hit piece? And intangibles?

This corrupt thug, while he would fit in so nicely with the Bush administration, does not deserve any position approved by Congress.

18. Conflict of interest?
If an attorney lost ones wife to terrorists, would it be a wise thing to put them in charge of the Justice dept.?

Where is the confirmation hearing ? I can't recall where that comes up first, does it first need to get out of the judiciary committee in the senate?

With current speculation rampant about an imminent departure (either by resignation or being asked to step down) of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, it would only be appropriate to provide relevant information about those mentioned as a possible replacement.

Some mentioned as early candidates include current administration officials as well as other long-term former government officials. And even though it may be premature to speculate on the next Attorney General, it is not too soon to compile a "dossier" on people perceived as frontrunners to replace Gonzales as Attorney General.

Snapshots of five of the individuals whose names have been mentioned so far ..........

25. Submitting Ted Olsen would be a big "fuck you" to the Democrats
so I wouldn't be surprised if this administration does it.

They really don't give a shit about this country, only how they can continue to cover up their crimes while they loot the treasury.
