Evangelicals not so sure about Fred Thompson now
Prominent evangelical leaders who spent the summer hoping Fred Thompson would emerge as their favored Republican presidential contender are having doubts as he begins his long-teased campaign.

For social conservatives dissatisfied with other GOP choices, the "Law & Order" actor and former Tennessee senator represents a Ronald Reagan-like figure, someone they hope will agree with them on issues and stands a chance of winning.

But Thompson's less-than-clear stance on a federal gay marriage amendment and his delay in entering the race are partly responsible for a sudden shyness among leading evangelicals.

"A month or two ago, I sensed there was some urgency for people to make a move and find a candidate," said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a Washington-based conservative Christian group. "Right now, I think people are stepping back a little and watching. The field is still very fluid."

10. I'm not betting against you. I've thought that for a while now.

It'll be Clinton v Romney in the general and I'm fairly certain I can guess that outcome of that match-up.

7. You are both wet.
Neither of them will come out ahead in the end.

Romney will get torpedoed early and often in the midwest and the south. His wavering on social conservative issues will kill him there. In the meantime stories will come out about the surprise showings of Brownbeck and Huckabee giving one or both of them the inertia to go farther forward.

Thompson will do alright early on but waver off as he doesn't actually have a solid constituency within the republican base. The religious-populist right wing candidates will paint him as being (correctly) a washington insider with a trophy wife.

Ron Paul will have a surprising showing throughout the primary season. He will not win but he will have a consistant showing far above what most Faux news polls place him at. Depending on how disenfranchised those voters are at the end of the process they may stay at home.

In the end the Dem's will win the white house barring Fraud, weird october surprises, or the selection of a candidate that is too corporate-wishy-washy. A pro Iraq war Dem candidate will also crash and burn if selected.

9. In the end, it will be Guilliani--McCain still hanging in their.
The Neocons and Gingrich plan to make the Larger
War on Terror the main theme of the next election.

This gives both Guilliani and McCain a fighting chance
to win the election.

Gingrich addresses AEI (Neocon Bastion) tomorrow.
Watch so you know the opposition.

Our opposition in Election will be Guilliani unless
McCain has a real turnaround.

12. Uhm
The neocon bastion is hanging by a thread. It is possible that Neo-Con will be to the republicans what DLC is to the democrats?

3. Go figure
And after that Tonight Show appearance where he pandered to the neocon base, I would think he would run on a platform to please the evangelicals too.

11. Jeez. You'd think the evangelicals would elect a chimp....
if he were anti-gay and anti-choice.

(Oh, yeah, that's right. They did.)
