Dumb Web-Site Owners
Boy..I'm glad the Folks that own/run DU have a smart-head on their shoulders.

Anyway...I go..well, used to go to a site that was very specific in it's subject..
..Let's say "Model Airplanes" (in order to disguise the Site.)

When the Site first opened, there were TONS of users and informative posts and much fun to be enjoyed....up until last month.

The Web-Site owner started bitching because sometimes people would ask the same question that was asked ..oh..maybe 2 weeks ago or 8 months ago. He would post something like>>
THAT QUESTION ABOUT MODEL PLANES HAS ALREADY BEEN ASKED.
USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION...USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!!

It never dawned on this idiot that maybe the posters asking the "OLD" questions just wanted to join the fun of talking about a subject that they Love....that a feeling of
"Web Comradeship" was important to them.

Anyway..Now the site has maybe 1-2 questions/Visitors per day!
Christ..there's only so many questions that can be asked about model planes ...especially if someone is going to "Jump down your throat" for posting a question that was asked 8 months ago.

The Site owner never understood human nature...

Couldn't you just imagine if a DUer started a thread about Mrs. Clinton and Skinner posted a nasty
letter about "We've ALREADY talked about Mrs. Clinton" !!

DU would look like a wasteland in 2 weeks... :)

1. A lot of techie forums do that.
There is usually a hard core of geeks who spend every waking hour on the forum, and a larger group of casual posters. When a casual poster dares to post a question that someone already answered sometime in the mid-15th century, the geeks jump down the poster's throat. It's pretty par for the course on such boards.

2. If the owner of the Site I used to go to ever wants to sell the Site...
....(And He Owns a GREAT domain-name) He'll have to explain to the Buyer why his site only gets a few "Hits" per day. :)

3. Well, they say people who collect things like model airplanes have no friends or no life
That may explain it.......

4. If the site owner guy yelled like that. Many, many people would be
turned off.

Information about a search function is a good thing. DU has an excellent searchability.

Like I said yelling never works on the net, positively, that is.
