Had a run-in at the in-laws tonight.
My MIL brought up some video in YouTube that she said her cousin put together -- A 9/11 We Will Not Forget video. The munchkins were asking "What's that?", "Is that happening now?" and MIL answered that bad guys bombed us back on 9/11.

I'm sorry. I just could not hold it in any longer. I said, loud enough for everyone to hear, "That's not true. A few bad terrorists, mostly Saudi terrorists, under the direction of Osama bin Laden , hijacked some commercial jets and flew them into the Pentagon and the towers. We're the bad guys with the bombs in Iraq the past 5 years." MIL countered with "But 3000 of our people died in those attacks". I volleyed back by telling her the 3700+ American soldiers who are dead from this resulting "War on Terror" will never see their families, their children, their friends again, and the number rises daily -- For what? While our sons/daughters are dying in a country not related to 9/11 except by this administration's wishful thinking, B* is playing kissy-face with the Saudi royals, jetting them out of the country when no American was allowed in the air, dreaming he's at an OPEC meeting instead of APEC, and OBL is still floating around out there somewhere."

My BIL said Bill Clinton had a chance to get OBL 2 yrs before he left office, and he didn't, so he's to blame too. I said don't hold him at fault, GWB has had the past 6 years, billions of dollars, and hundreds of thousands of soldiers, and he hasn't gotten him either.

Then I left. I hope they have a nice trip. This was a send-off family dinner for their 3-month retirement camping excursion. At least it will be memorable. ;)

1. You forgot the million Iraqis we have killed
and their only sin was to be living in the wrong place. So many forget about the innocent Iraqi victims. Not to mentionthe millions maimed or displaced both internally and externally.

2. Good for you; someone needed to shove the truth in their faces. I'm
sure you were very nice about it. ;)

4. And in ten years, if there's an Iraqi left alive
they'll be able to put up a "We Will Not Forget" video on YouTube about the THOUSANDS of their friends, family, and countrymen killed because of OUR knee-jerk reaction to what those Saudi fuckers did.

What makes Americans so fucking special?

I like what's good about this country, but I HATE what's not. And discounting the thousands upon thousands of deaths inflicted so we can "fight them over there" is one of the things that really pisses me off.

This is why I will NOT deal with RWers. Just won't. I may work with a few, but I don't know it and that's the way I like it. Thankfully my father is a life-long Dem and my wife's mother is pretty much on the same page as I am politically.

I just couldn't easily tolerate this self-centered, Americentric bullshit. The 9/11 hijackers were mad at our government and its policies, so they killed 3000 of our people. In retaliation, we attacked another country that had nothing to do with it and killed maybe 100,000 of THEIR people. I wish we could just grab all the leaders, put them in a pit, and let THEM fight it out.

5. woodsprite and mythsaje - you are both awesome!
There's no reason to give them even 1 iota of room to spread their bullshit and lies. Good for you that you don't give them space!

6. *whew* okay.
After reading the first paragraph, I was afraid your second paragraph was going to be something out of the loony 9/11 conspiracy book. But you did good.

7. Nah, not with my loony freeper BIL.
When I say something, I mentally make sure that I can go right to the backup if needed to prove my point. I love my hubby dearly, and that's the ONLY reason I've been doing weekly family night dinners for the past 24 years - almost without break. I'll worry about my in-laws and their travels, but I'm going to enjoy the break.
