Marine admits to fraud over Purple Heart car tag
It was a wrong and sick thing to do, but two felonies?

Btw, I wonder why some of the same veterans that came to this guy's court hearing didn't protest the 'purple bandaids' at the 2004 RNC.
---

A line of combat-wounded veterans glared at a young veteran as he walked into the Shawnee County Courthouse on Friday to face criminal charges that he fraudulently obtained a Purple Heart license tag for his car.

The Purple Heart is awarded to those in the military who are wounded or killed in battle. A veteran can get the Purple Heart license tag by showing proof of his or her wounding, including discharge records, a newspaper clipping or a certificate issued by the Department of Defense.

...DeBusk subsequently pleaded guilty to dealing in false identification documents and making false information. The felony convictions each have a potential sentence of seven to nine months in prison.

"I want to make things right by my community, my family and my God," he said in an interview. "I want my conscience clear."

2. This same guy was arrested for impersonating a military police officer last year.
Maybe that's why they threw the book at him this time, figuring he hadn't learned his lesson and was on his way to a career of fraud and forgery.

4. We're going to be seeing a lot of "stolen valor" again.
It's just one of the ways people betray the service of veterans. Betrayal is on the Ninth Circle of (Dante's) Hell ... right next to Hypocrisy.

Like this disgusting piece of detestable human filth ..

6. I don't think so.
According to the AR DMV:

Eligibility: Issued to an Arkansas resident who has been awarded the Purple Heart Medal while serving in the U.S. Armed forces, or a resident who is the unmarried surviving spouse of a Purple Heart recipient.

Requirements: Certification by the U.S. Department of Defense of the award of the "Purple Heart". Surviving spouses who are not joint owners of the vehicle must present a marriage license and death certificate.

You could give them a call, but I don't think you qualify.

7. Ok, thanks
Both my brother and I were born in Florida and at time of his death, he was native of Florida. I just moved here over a year ago. I didn't think I would qualify, but it would be nice to have something in memory of him because we were so close. He was only 20 and wasn't married. Would Mom qualify? I will check, thanks. We both live in Arkansas now. :hi:

8. Go to your DMV with the citation, generally
It varies by state, but at most DMV's you just have to take a copy of your citation and the $20 (or whatever) for the tag.
