I still cannot get over the fact that bush was AWOL and a drunk and drug user and somehow this was all overlooked even in the 2004 elections . Or how the swift boaters got away with their adds against Kerry .

I recall when everyone was in an uproar over Clinton maybe inhaling MJ many years ago yet bush just seemed to float by untouched by an entire life of lying and cheating .

What got him off , was it the simple I am born again line that did it ? Other than the voting machines and Florida voter fraud .

Dan Rather went down because of this story. What was interesting was that Killian's secretary said that while the documents that Rather had were not the real ones (more like Air Force docs), SHE HAD A FILE THAT HAD DOCUMENTS THAT SAID THE SAME THING--BUSH WAS WORTHLESS AND ABSENT.

The MSM never followed up (that I recall) on that story. They just crucified Rather.

... the FEW times a Bush/GOP spokesperson was asked about George's drinking or drug use, it was quickly dismissed with the "that was before he found Jesus and changed his ways" commentary.

This has become SOP for Republicans, as you've just seen with Vitter. Playing the 'Jesus card' is considered to be the end of the discussion; i.e. finding Jesus, being 'saved', 're-committing one's life to the Lord', asking God's forgiveness, etc.

As for George's AWOL status, the topic was glossed-over with the statement that "he fulfilled his military duty". Of course, to this day, no records proving that he completed his service have ever been found. In fact, when the topic got heated in the lead-up to 2004, they were declared 'lost' ...
