Langley jets grounded next week for safety review

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- Langley Air Force Base will ground its jets next week.

The Air Force says the service's Air Combat Command has ordered all jet fighters and bombers to remain grounded so airmen can review safety procedures and protocol.

Langley is home to three fighter squadrons, which fly the F-15 Eagle and F-22A Raptor.

Officials say the stand down next Friday was prompted by an August incident where a B-52 bomber was mistakenly armed with six nuclear warheads and flown across several states.

1. By next week, do they mean the week of 9/11?
Sounds suspicious to me. When is the 'martial law' scenario supposed to be rehearsed by the military? Maybe my tinfoil hat is on a bit tight tonight. Had to put a few extra layers on tonight when I visited the in-laws.

4. They ground *Langley* because missiles "mistakenly" flew out of N. Dakota to Louisiana?
Now, what sounds familiar about this?

20. oh yeah? How can you tell if some badly trained plane
didn't simply use its fly by wire system to snag some nukes? huh? huh?

Rocknation, my biggest fear is that the underlying basis for your statement may be in error, ie, that it was a "mistake", and not a deliberate effort by Cheney and his cohorts to create trouble someplace.

21. Uh...
If you were going to ground all jets for a safety review...why the hell would you announce it to the whole world?

Secondly, are their any nuclear munitions at Langley? I don't think they are so why would they need to have all of their jets grounded for nuclear munition installation procedures?

I don't trust these mother f-ers anymore.

22. this isn't the first time a stand-down has been ordered. One in 1997 too
After a series of accidents, there was a stand-down ordered by AIr Combat Command in Sept 1997.
