I promise to support the Dem candidate, even if it's not Hillary Clinton. |

I'm not a Hillary Clinton supporter, but I figured someone needed to say this, to balance out all the "even if it's Hillary" posts.
I assume the Hillary supporters are willing to 'hold their noses and vote', too, right?
I ask because there seems to be something of a contradiction in the Clinton supporters' argument. On the one hand, they say we must all support her if she wins the nomination... but their major reason for supporting her is that anyone to her left will "alienate" Democrats on the right side of the spectrum.
Why shouldn't right-leaning Democrats just 'hold their noses and support' the nominee, the same way everyone to their left is expected to? Why is their assumed desertion so casually accepted?

4. She's not my top candidate, but there are plenty of good reasons |
|
for supporting her -- besides a wish to "avoid alienating Democrats on the right." In fact, I've never heard of that given as a reason.
For one thing, her voting record makes her one of the most progressive people in the Senate, with a score consistently above 90% on progressive issues, according to www.progressivepunch.com. (The typical Rethug has a score in the 15-20% range.)
For another, she has a well-oiled, experienced campaign and she's a fighter. When the Rethugs swiftboat her -- as they will any Dem candidate -- she'll be ready.
And for another, based on the reaction of my daughter and her young friends, I think she may energize a lot of young women -- women who have traditionally not been among the groups of high voter participation. She could well expand the party base for years.
I think we're fortunate to have several really strong candidates this time around. The Rethug field, by contrast, is drek.

5. Historically, the left has always held their noses and voted for |
|
the dem.
It was the Dem right that abandonded the party to put Reagan in power.

7. In 2000, more than 95,000 on the left in Florida alone abandoned the Democrats |
|
to vote for Nader, giving Bush all the room he needed to steal the election by 500 votes.

12. I'm talking about registered Dems, not Greens. |
|
You know, like "Reagan Democrats". There were a couple more than 95,000 if them.

8. Except that Clinton isn't "right-leaning" - She has over 92% progressive voting record... |

10. The only promise I will make is that I will not let the media, |
|
the republicans, the DNC or even DU tell me who to vote for. It may be only one vote and it may not even be counted, but it is my vote and I will decide who speaks for me. No one else can decide that!

11. I make no promises. You earn my vote. I don't pledge it to anyone automatically. |
|
If neither candidate is up to par, I'm walking home instead of voting, or I'll vote third party, but given the peculiarities of the Electoral College and the fact that I'm in a safe state, I do have the luxury of exercising a vote for the third party, unlike those who live in places like Florida or Ohio or any other swing state.
