36 tons of dead fish have been pulled out from the Tisa River in Vojvodina as a consequence of a toxic spill. The pollution was reportedly caused by sugar mill TE-TO and yeast factory Fermin. On September 1, the State Environmental Inspectorate shut down the sugar mill until September 17. From that day forward, the mill will continue with work under supervision of the Inspectorate. The Republic Water Management Directorate representatives said that complaints had been filed to the court against both companies.Meanwhile, fifty fishermen pulled out 36 tons of dead fish from the river as a result of the pollution that has taken disastrous proportions.“We ordered both factories to stop with the discharge of waste water into the river. However, we have found out our orders have not being fully complied with.""Our inspectors will on Monday look to block the draining pipes releasing waste material into the Tisa River,” said Nikola Marijanoviæ, head of the Water Management Directorate. He added that toxins were being diluted in the stream and thus continued to cause the dying of fish, even of the species living at the river’s bottom, as the fishermen have taken out dead catfish weighing more than 50 kilos.
