a lesson from Gen. Petraeus' dog and pony show that many seem to miss |
|
his propaganda exercise exposes the US military's true role in the world today. it has nothing to do with 'protecting america' or 'keeping america safe' because it serves not the citizenry of the US, but the economic powers that be by making the world safe for US and international corporations to steal natural resources and enslave native populations. and as bonus enrich the domestic MIC.
if you really want peace, and to make the world safe for democracy, and restore whatever respect the US had in this world and make the 'homeland' a better place to live, defund and defang the US miltary.
asbestos suit on. :hi:

1. You're right, I weep for that. I was honored to serve in the 80s Army but I would NOT serve now. nt |

2. The American military is under the leadership of the CINC. |

You want a new direction for the military? Get a new CINC.
If we keep supporting unelectable stiffs, we'll continue to be the minority party.

3. What's sadly missing is SOMEONE, ANYONE, pointing out that |

this dog-n-pony show is all about only one thing: keeping our troops in Hell so our "leader" can save face. So george can ride on out into the sunset with his war intact - so, again, someone else gets to clean up his mess. That's been his pattern from the day he first left a diaper full (for someone else to clean up).

never even notice. Last week, a friend and I were discussing the news media. I commented how, when I was young, we were concerned when we found that US intelligence agencies usually had at least one person employed in each major media outlet (as well as on every college campus). Today, every television major cable network has several "military advisors" that help Americans define the world around us daily.
My friend said that he found many of them interesting, and that he enjoyed listening to those on MSNBC in particular. I said that my point was not if they were nice individuals, but rather, the dangers posed by such obvious conflicts of interest. Who owns MSNBC? Where are their major contracts? How many "peace experts" does MSNBC have for advisors?
The militarization of our society has allowed the oil/defense industries to get us into the war of occupation in Iraq, and our congress does not dare challenge them. We are fed lies by the media -- the democrats don't have the votes -- which require an utter ignorance of the Constitutional powers of Congress to swallow. And we hear fools say that the public would not support such an action on the part of Congress until there is a larger majority of democrats in Congress, which begs the question: how will you get this larger majority, unless people actually do oppose this war?
