Michael Vick and the rehabbing of pitbulls
Sorry, DU, wish I had a link, but I don't. However Best Friends http://news.bestfriends.org/ is part of a coalition that has filed a "Friend of the Court" Motion that suggests Vick should be forced to pay for the rehabilitation of the dogs that were seized in the raid on his property that also brought forth the multiple charges we've all heard about. A rehabilitation that would make them fine pets, up for adoption. If they were "too far gone" they'd be permanent residents of Best Friends, living out their lives without threatening or attacking another living being. Vick would be forced to provide sanctuary. Seems fair to me.

For me, I'd like to see Vick forced to pay millions for the rehab or permanent rehoming of these dogs at Best Friends.

Reap...sow.

As someone who, everyday, as an individual that runs a rescue that takes in, rehabs and rehomes dogs, largely pitbulls, I'd be very, very happy to see this.

We've rehabbed and rehomed fighters, bait dogs...and to be honest, I'd like 10 minutes alone with Mr. Vick.

Just thought I'd toss that out there.

3. Well after he serves his jail time.
It would be a fine way for him to pay his restitution and community service.

4. "They" have mentioned his "deep pockets" and are suggesting
that it would be a good way to bring attention to the dogfighting issue.

5. Even in my tiny Northern MN town...ALL of the dogs at the shelter are part Pit-Bull.
I think the Vick bastard should be required to build shelters for animals.

Physically BUILD them. WIth a hammer and nails.

He's scum.

trade his "signing bonus" for actual work. That'd be fine with me.

7. I would rather have him sit in the same room as pets owners say goodbye to their pets.
A week should do.

11. I doubt he would care. He obviously lacks empathy for
the suffering of others.

13. Just so he doesn't have any
thing to do directly with the dogs, no hands on or anything like that. Sometimes animals abusers are sentanced to taking care of animals which seems so wrong. I don't think anyone who abused a child would be sentanced to the care and feeding of one. Anyone who abusers animals should never be allowed near one again but PAYING for their rehabilatation is something he should do.
