1 killed, 11 wounded in attack on major U.S. base in Baghdad

The Associated Press
Published: September 11, 2007

BAGHDAD: One "third-country national" was killed and 11 coalition soldiers were wounded in an indirect fire attack Tuesday on a major U.S. headquarters installation, the U.S. command said.

The attack occurred at the sprawling Camp Victory, which includes the headquarters of Multinational Corps-Iraq, which runs the ground war. The term "indirect fire" ordinarily refers to mortar or rocket fire.

The U.S. statement gave no further details. The term "third country national" means a non-American or non-Iraqi.

Most troops stationed at Camp Victory, located near Baghdad International Airport, are American but other coalition forces are based there too.

3. The media HAS to be mistaken.....
I distinctly heard from the top guys that the "surge" is working, Baghdad is all good, etc, etc, etc.

I mean NO disrespect for those who were injured and the one who was killed. I do, however, mean every bit of the disrespect I can muster for those "top guys" to whom I referred.

4. So the International Tribune is reporting that is it?
Wonder if and when it will get any play at all in the US media.

6. How dare the insurgents disrespect the good general like this?
So basically, going on five years, the freaking Baghdad Airport region is still not secure.

Can we leave now? Please?

7. Bob from Baghdad sent Randi an e-mail this morning about this...
