2. Am I to assume that the surge has failed |
|
Did this war criminal merely send more troops so that he can maintain his original number for political gain?

It's just sort of unsurging the surge.

25. I refuse to listen to Bush's next speech - "RERUN" BUSH never says anything |
|
and certainly never says anything NEW:
Hard work - blah blah - amurrikins - hard work - blah blah blah - demokrats - nukular - reducing our troops to the pre-surge numbers by, mebbe, end next summer - blah blah blah blah - Gin'ral Petraeus - blah.

Bush says he will reduce troop levels 'sometime next summer'. Gee anything going on next summer that is important? Oh yeah, a national election. Do you think maybe he will save the troop reduction to try to help the Republicans in the 2008 election. Maybe lie and say everything is going great and pull out a few troops to allow the Repubs to have some photo ops with returning soldiers.
On another note, this would just about fulfill Bush's desire to pass the Iraq mess onto the next president. Basically he would be able to say that after the small reduction he won't do anything because of the election, and once a new president is elected say that he will defer to let the president elect implement his program. Down the line he can claim that under his watch 'everything was getting better and we had started to pull out the troops'.

21. Bush math - Add 30,000, then subtract 30,000 and call it a big success. |

29. He put 40,000 in for the surge, so we're at a net gain |
|
BFD, in other words. I like KO's take on this: it's like announcing a 25% off sale after you just raised prices 25%. It's ridiculous and meaningless, like most Bush nonsense.
But look how even the loser Dems will be fooled. In January 2007, he's under heavy pressure to start removing troops. Instead, he adds 40,000. Now he says he's removing 30,000 maybe some time next summer or so. So, in a year and a half, we have zero progress on any thing, and Bush gets to look like a reasonable guy and claim credit for withdrawing troops, while the complicit media ghets to pretend that the stupid surge is working. This whole thing is a farce. I'm resigned now. This war will go on like this for a long time. It's time to start getting used to it. They won. The Bushies won. It's over.
