And who will require it to be paid off?

1. Never, it will be sold to hedge funds who in turn will forclose on the U.S.
....and then sell off the assets including residents who are the backers of the national debt

5. See that's the difference between the national debt and your debt
The government can just borrow more money to pay off old debt. They can pay off visa with master card and vice versa for fuckin ever. The rest of us couldn't get away with that. Maybe someday everybody will refuse to buy US government debt then the shit will hit the fan but that day is a long way off.

The time when the dollar loses world respect is much closer then you think. It is right now at the lowest value against other world currencies in the past 15 years. There is evidence that some governments are dumping their dollar holdings in order to get a higher return.

Runaway inflation is the real possibility if our government doesn't wake up and correct its financial house of cards.
