Biden's in tears on Tweety's show. |
|
Wow. Dude is wearing it on his sleeve. He was telling about having "fallen angels" loaded on his last flight out of Dover, Delaware...and came close to falling apart. "We shouldn't be there. What are we doing there?"
It was pretty heavy.

but truly are you going to say that only members of the Army have been killed or wounded over in Iraq?
Anyone going to Iraq is in danger of losing their lives or being severly wounded. Was Bob Woodruff in any less danger than a member of the Army? Are any private contractors in any less danger than a member of the Army?
He's going to Iraq, he'll be in danger.

Before that I didn't know what was up. But he didn't pick up his head to face the camera for a while. I thought, uh-oh. And when he looked back into the camera, his eyes had changed. He spoke but was clearly swallowing tears.
Anyone who didn't see it should try to catch the replay later.

I've never heard such a great job by Tweety....no, today he is Chris Matthews. For today. If you're not watching, then you should be....or watch the replay tonight. Matthews tearing Petreaus Report, Crocker, bush new ones. The talk between him and Biden was very emotional, almost made me cry too.

But for whatever reason I always tune in to him (usually so I don't forget to watch Keith at 5Pm) and he is doing something wonderfully intelligent - like having Edwards on.
There have only been one or two moments where he has said something while I have watched him that his words or attitude makes me mad.

14. Yes he did. And if you saw him on the air, you'd understand his vote. |
|
I don't agree with his decision, but it's pretty heartfelt. His view is that he's not funding the war, but buying the armor & weapons that the troops over there need to not get killed. It's always been a personal thing with Biden--like when he came flat out in favor of intervening in Ethiopia at the debate. No one else is willing to go there, but Biden gets worked up about people dying.
He's got the biggest heart on the stage at any given debate. If he was president, he'd do us all proud.

not the current horror in iraq just in case i wasnt clear
yes he does have a heart and he does get emotional but i - for one - would not be proud of a biden presidency he often speaks about doing the right thing i will give him that
on edit - and also if i am not mistaken (which is certainly possible) it is my understanding that there already is supposed to be funding for armor etc that its a false argument - and one that the republicans like to broadcast of course - that to defund is to take armor away from the soldiers it is my understanding that that is completely false
again i am very open to hearing if that is not the case

|
He doesn't have the $$$ that would keep him competitive with Clinton, Obama and Edwards -- doesn't it just suck that it comes down to that? Just read an article questioning his wisdom of focusing so strongly on Ohio and not New Hampshire. It then stated it was generally thought that he didn't have the funds to cover both equally. How sad -- I think if more people heard and saw him, there would be a lot of conversions. So I always go to his site and make my meager donations when I can, having faith that other "believers" like me are doing the same.

45. Sounds like the Graves Registration people in Viet Nam. |
|
'Those 173rd troopers from Dak To were beautiful. Really beautiful.'
That is a paraphrase of Graves Registration (morgue) people talking to CBS reporter John Laurence after the hill battles near Dak To. They were talking about their dark art on those that might possibly have an open casket ceremony somewhere down the line.
From my recollections of The Cat from Hue, by John Laurence.
BTW: We had a battled-damaged Grumman OV-1 Mohawk come over the field at Phu Bai during Lam Son 719. They had lost all systems, so they punched out over the field .. leaving the Mohawk to splash in the South China Sea. Didn't work that way.
The observer's chute opened (he survived), the pilot's chute did not (he died). The pilot landed on the doorstep of Graves Registration. The Mohawk, lacking the forward weight of the two crew, pitched up and spun in on the eastern perimeter of the Phu Bai airfield.
The basic elements of this event are incorporated in a short story of mine. To keep the crew alive, I have them bailing out over the South China Sea.

55. He took responsibility...however... |
|
Everyone knows those stump speeches are written by speechwriters after having sat down with the candidate many, many times. THEY included the Kinnock quotes and I have no doubt it was the greater story, rather than the fine points that Biden was trying to get across. He don't think he DID know that was the story of Kinnock. Biden was man enough in 1988 to take responsibility for, what pundits knew, was really the work of those under him. This guy has faced adversity in so many ways - loss of wife and daughter in auto crash (almost claiming his two young sons), the whole '88 thing in which HE accepted full responsibility (imagine that!) and then again in '88 was stricken by two brain aneurysms which kept him sidelined from the Senate, fighting for his life, for over a half year. He's a man. A tested man who would make a great President of the United States.
