Study finds liberals more intelligent than conservatives
They always try to throw the poor RePUKES a bone. Thing is they weren't testing for "distracting information" they were testing for information relevant to the task. Guess finding out there was no evidence of WMD in Iraq before Idiot invaded is what they call "distracting information."

Lead author David Amodio, an assistant professor of psychology at New York University, cautioned that the study looked at a narrow range of human behavior and that it would be a mistake to conclude that one political orientation was better. The tendency of conservatives to block distracting information could be a good thing depending on the situation, he said.

Exploring the neurobiology of politics, scientists have found that liberals tolerate ambiguity and conflict better than conservatives because of how their brains work.

In a simple experiment reported todayin the journal Nature Neuroscience, scientists at New York University and UCLA show that political orientation is related to differences in how the brain processes information.

Participants were college students whose politics ranged from "very liberal" to "very conservative." They were instructed to tap a keyboard when an M appeared on a computer monitor and to refrain from tapping when they saw a W.

M appeared four times more frequently than W, conditioning participants to press a key in knee-jerk fashion whenever they saw a letter.

2. This says nothing about intelligence per se

It does say that there is a difference in thought patterns and how people deal with situations but it doesn't necessarily mean liberals have higher IQ's or are "smarter".
I wish people would NOT distort scienctific studies into saying something it doesn't no matter how "dumb" I may believe conservatives to be personally.:eyes:

6. The researchers, when interviewed over the weekend,
were clear on this point.

Their language, otherwise, was a little biased, in my opinion, but far less biased than any language from "science reporters" away from their usual society beats.

Different styles of thinking (or "cognition"?) is how the researchers put it. One tends to be more structured, they said, and desire more absolutes; the other tends to be more chaotic, and tolerate ambiguity. Each has strengths, but in different contexts.

Strictly speaking, the only thing that they showed was that liberals make fewer typing mistakes when confronted with 'M' and 'W' prominently displayed on a computer screen, but with the grapheme 'M' occurring in a way that can habituate the subject to expect another 'M' will be next. After M ... M ... M ... M ..., when confronted with a 'W' more conservatives hit 'M' than did liberals, while more liberals thought about the conflict between the instructions and their habits.
