Kerry Says Bringing Home 30,000 Troops is Too Little, Too Late

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. John Kerry issued the following statement today, in response to the announcement from President Bush that he will bring 30,000 troops home from Iraq sometime next year.

“Only President Bush would applaud a race back to the starting line when after four years, the finish line should be in sight. It's the military version of the movie ‘Groundhog Day’ to return to the troop levels before the President launched an ill-advised escalation,” Kerry said. “Rather than the result of progress in Iraq, this announcement merely reflects an attempt to appease an anxious public and put a band-aid on an over-extended military. It doesn’t get the job done. This announcement is too little, too late and I intend to work in Congress to force a change in this disastrous path.”

4. K & R. I was dismayed by this oh-so-wonderful "drawdown"
when all it does is bring us back to January 2007. Groundhog Day is right.

6. Thank you, Senator Kerry. If only they had listened to you and Sen. Feingold last year.
The binding resolution proposed then would have brought an end to this nightmare, but only 11 other senators stood with you. Thank you for continuing to fight both the administration and the ignorance that allows them to prevail.

Rock on, Senator!
