It is clear from the last couple of days (actually, it's been clear for months) that Bush's whole goal is to avoid responsibility for the fiasco that Iraq has become, by keeping the troops there until he leaves office. That way, he can always claim that the next president "ruined (or lost)" Iraq...
John Kerry famously asked, upon returning from his service in Vietnam, "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"
Today's question would have to be, "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for George Bush's ego?"

1. Yes, ego or 'legacy'. That's what it's come down to. nt |

4. "legacy" pretties it up too much, IMHO |

It's his ego. He doesn't care how he leaves the country, he doesn't care about the soldiers that are dying for his "splendid little war," he just cares that he can tell himself that he wasn't wrong.

3. He will never admit it. |

Bush will go to his grave believing he heroically "stuck to his guns" while those around him (the American people) faltered.
Personally, I hope he also goes to his grave sick, broke, and in horrible pain and unable to get health care... But that's just my Bush Derangement Syndrome talking, I guess.
