"""Incidentally, I offer the following sidenote about General Petraeus, by almost all accounts an enormously accomplished man: A student of mine at the UT Law School, who had had combat experience in both Afghanistan and Iraq, referred to him as "General Betrayus" because of what was thought to be his inordinate interest in good publicity (and presumed self-promotion) rather than concern for his troops. I have no idea whether this is fair, but I do know that this is what my sober and thoughtful student told me."""

1. You're damn right it's "Betrayus"!!!
I am so sick and tired of the debate being controlled by the right-wing
publicity machine.

Petreaus is betraying the United States...and the soldiers and every
citizen in this country. Of course he is!

He's spearheading a lie-based war that is a complete and utter failure.
He's allowing himself and his military background to be leveraged for
continuing the murder of innocent Iraqis and our soldiers.

The surge is not working. Violence has waned in some areas where our troops
are--but what does that have to do with anything? The violence has shifted
elsewhere. Iraqis are without electricity and water. Millions have fled
the country. Hundreds of thousands have died. We're incarcerating 60 Iraqis
daily! The country is partitioned off between Kurds, Sunis and Shia and we're standing
in the middle of a civil war.

So WHAT if fighting in Anbar has lessened a bit! How does that change the fact
that we started this war to eliminate WMD that NEVER EXISTED, and then decided
we were going to bring the Iraqi people PEACE and FREEDOM that has morphed into
murder, mayhem and mass exodus!

This is an abysmal, shameful failure that robs our nation of billions of dollars and only
aids the neocon warmongers in their scheme to plant themselves in the region so they can
invade and occupy more countries--thus destroying more innocent lives and plundering
the infrastructure of more nations.

It is a betrayl! A major, horrendous betrayl. Petraeus is lubing the war machine
that Americans want stopped. Of course it's a betrayl.

As usual, the Republicans are skilled at feigning outrage when the Democrats have
the balls to speak truth to power. And, as usual, the Democrats respond to
Republican pseudo-outrage by apologizing for telling the truth.
