5 things Petraeus should be asked about: polls of Iraqi opinion of occupation, Bush's oil theft law |
|
what Iraqis think of it and how affects attitudes toward our troops,
whether the slow pace of reconstruction affects attitudes toward troops,
and whether giving contracts to actual Iraqis might speed things up and earn some goodwill (probably way too late for that).
the bottomline question here is have the CIVILIANS in our gov't done their job to win the hearts and minds of Iraqis or are they AWOL because they are stuffing their pockets with cash and prying the gold fillings out of dead Iraqi mouths.
I don't think there is a good way to do the occupation that would be totally acceptable to Iraqis, and the invasion itself was a war crime. But in Vietnam, at least they did a better job of putting on the appearance of trying to win over the locals.
