He was making a strong point on how overly serious people in politics are. Remember the fake entourage at the OPEC meeting? And how the chief of police wanted to prosecute those involved even though they didn't break any laws? That was a case of being way way too serious about the whole thing. I think that brought to light how many of our present problems have been created and magnified.
It was an uncomfortable piece. That has always been the case with the Daily Show. Many of their guests simply have not gotten it. But that was magnified by the cultural gap.
