on Amy Goodman's Democracy Now. the missing $ 9B in Cash
In a startling new expose in Vanity Fair, Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalists Donald Barlett and James Steele follow the money trail from the Federal Reserve to Iraq.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One month after the invasion of Iraq, the United States began airlifting planeloads of cash to Baghdad...literally. Stacks of $100 dollar bills were packed into bricks, assembled into large palettes and loaded onto cargo planes bound for the Iraqi capital. Beginning in April 2003 and continuing for little more than a year, a total of $12 billion dollars of US currency was shipped from the Federal Reserve to Iraq. The US military delivered the banknotes to the Coalition Provisional Authority where it was to be dispensed for Iraqi reconstruction. What happened to it? To date, at least $9 billion dollars cannot be accounted for.

1. I'm watching.
Even though I have heard some of it before, I'm fascinated.

I used to work for General Dynamics when I was a youngster (20ish) in the Accounting/Property Department.

The arrogance of contractors is, and continues to be, AMAZING!

mainly, what comes to mind, let's just say that I do not doubt those allegations on the internet that the U.S. armed Bin Laden, when he was part of the rebel fighters in Afghanistan, nor do I doubt the allegations that we armed Hussein.

They would participate in such an effort, feeling that they were good patriot contractors.

6. I figure $8.5BB got reinvested in the 2004 Election.

It costs a lot of money to steal a Presidential election. But when you control trillions, it's a cheap investment.

7. Wish Keith Oberman would have Amy on his show
I wonder if he doesn't cause he is intimidated by her or if MSNBC won't let him.

8. The Real Surge...The Cash Surge...
Methinks you don't have to go too far outside of the "Contractors" world to find where a good chunk of that cash went and where others are still going.

The corporate media totally ignores the 100,000 plus mercenaries in that country...the real reason boooshie won't "stand down"...as our troops now work as a private security service for the contractors and the profits they're all making. Just look at Halliburton's bottom line and you'll start seeing where that cash ended up...and what this invasion has always been about. Also, while you're at it, ask Mr. Hunt and his new oil contract with the Kurds...
