One piece of good news for you all to enjoy with me.
Hey there,

My little brother just got home safe from his 2nd tour in Iraq. He was one of the "lucky" ones to get the 15 month tours.

Hopefully the Army will let him out this time instead of adding another year to his contract like they did last year.

But, he's home, and is smiling. And so am I. :-)

Have a great night,

Captain Angry.

Welcome him home
and it might be time to contact your reps to get him out of the army...

13. The Reps will be busy with other stuff.
They're going to get to find out why commanders in Iraq don't like giving out "too many" Purple Hearts.

My brother's vehicle was hit with an IED, all inside were injured in some way from concussions, to hearing issues, etc.

The commander said they'd given out too many Purple Hearts at that point, so he wouldn't be submitting a report on it.

17. I understeand
And he needs those purple hearts. So all the good luck in the world with that one... oh and don't forget to involve the local press. It helps!

But I also mention this since this exactly what it took to avoid my husband getting extended... I mean stop lossed. USN Chief Ret.

unlike Republicans in Iraq who fight for dismantling the New Deal the Fair Deal and want to replace it with GW Bush's Ordeal.

I just wish that around 100,000 other families got to feel this way today. Hopefully sooner, rather than later. Man we need to end this thing.

He's gotten so big since he joined the Army. He was kind of scrawny before he went in.

I think we weigh the same amount now, but he can bench press tanks. I get winded walking to my car.

37. CALL YOUR SENATOR!
That is call him/her your house member, any congress critter that will listen and GET HIM OUT!
Your congress critter should be able to get your brother out, that is NO more extensions to his "contract"
I don't know if he signed up ads a conscientious objector would also keep his service from being illegally extended
(illegal imho, I'm sure the contract they sign is filled with all kinds of legal bullshit!)

That aside :grouphug: I'm glad to hear he's back and in one piece physically!
Now... get him out and up to Canada anyway lol.
From what I've seen the US is going down, very fast  the dollar is falling like a stone
despite all the propping up other countries have done to it recently.
Sorry to be a downer, but it sounds like the time he may bhave before his contract is up is limited.
Best to act now, then to regret it later.

And again, I'm so happy for your family that he's home and safe. My brother in law is in the coast guard, but I still worry about him being scooped up and sent over to the quagmire.

114. When he's had a steak or two, I'll ask him.
I'm looking forward to the stories.

It wasn't until after his last tour that he admitted that he wasn't in the relatively safe place he said he'd been, but that he was really walking the line, door to door stuff. He knew that none of us would have slept again if he told us that before he came home.

But the Petraeus thing will be interesting.

97. Glad he's home
friend of mine is in Germany now... he is going to get to stay there until after Christmas. Hoping that he won't go for his third tour. It's affected him in ways that I hate to think about. It's the life he chose, and I have to respect that part of it. I don't think he chose the administration's endless war philosophy.

:woohoo:

congrats on your brother's safe return

115. He's not signing shit.
He didn't mind the service, even after his first tour.

He didn't talk about re-upping back then, but he didn't talk about getting out either.

Now, he's counting the days. So am I.

It must be horrible to fight without a clear purpose. My husband spent 14 months "in country" in Vietnam, and he's still doesn't know what was achieved by that whole fiasco.

on edit: My father-in-law was stationed in the pacific during WWII, and he's full of bravado, yet he doesn't acknowledge his son as a fellow veteran.

116. It's interesting.
When he was on his first tour, he knew exactly why he was there, and what the job was.

He was going door to door, and disarming whole sections of Baghdad. They found groups of people with millions in cash to fund attacks. They found people with the silver plated rifles of Hussein's private guard.

He said back then that they had no idea what it was going to be like there until the night Hussein was captured.

When that happened, the amount of celebratory gunfire was so loud and overwhelming, the most well equipped military in the world got real nervous. He said that his fellow soldiers just didn't understand the scale of the armaments in that country until that night.

That's a shame about your father-in-law acting like that. Both of my grandpops were in military in WWII, my dad flew bombers in Viet Nam, and everybody knew where my brother fit in. My great uncle was Army in WWII, and is still a huge Bush fan. But everybody's proud of my brother.
