Poll question: Thread Death: Is It Just Me, or...
Am I so disliked that I'm a "Thread Killer"? Is there such a thing?

I can absolutely state that I've made unwelcome, untoward, and uncalled for posts/responses. For those I'd be the first to apologize for. Goodness, sometimes I wake up in the morning and HATE to look at the replies to what I've posted/replied to.

I need to apologize more.

Blanket apology here: I am one of the "Great Unwashed". I'm nothing more than a high school educated moran whose opinions are usually out of line, if not offensive altogether.

I apologize to every poster whose thread has sunk like a rock due to my nickname having been associated with theirs.

I'd still like to know:

3. That is what I kind of thought at first.
I was trying not to prejudge.

My next question is are you trying to make fun of me or my post??

I want to check that out before I really respond.

7. Not making fun of your post at ALL. Just commenting on something I see every day.
Sometimes OP's sink like rocks. I just thought your post was something that should be explored in-depth.

I'm sorry if it seemed like I was making fun of you. That SURELY wasn't my intent.

5. Ya know, having checked your profile....
It is all coming back to me now.

You are the guy that doesn't think we have had any hanky panky in our California elections being that you are a poll worker in Big Bear.

And if we don't trust you then we just can't trust anyone. Is that right oh cherokee progressive one?

How is it that everyone that claims they have American Indian heritage always state that they are a Cherokee???

16. No need to be sorry, I was the one who overreacted.
My GrandPop left the res in Tahlequah, OK and came west after marrying a white woman when he came back from WWII. Talk about your interracial marriage. They started in the San Juaquin Valley picking tomatoes, because that's the only thing they could do because of the way people felt back then. He wound up being a player in the Apollo space program and got major kudos due to his mathmetical capabilities before he retired and died.

Johny Marvin Catron is truly one of my heroes and I visit his grave in Idaho at least once a year.

17. What you said wasn't offensive.

I grew up within the territorial boundaries of the "modern day" Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. Cherokees are the largest federally-recognized Native American tribe in the US, so it's only logical that so many people claim Cherokee lineage and I think that's what you were pointing out. Maybe cherokeeprogressive's point is that the Cherokee population was far, far larger before the genocide that removal truly was.

21. I posted earlier in a thread in GD about traveling to OK on vacation.
I remember in the 60's sleeping on the living room floor of my Grandpop's sister's house. She lived on the reservation in Tahlequah and I HATED going there, being a city boy and all. One night I had to pee SOOOO BAD, but only looked out the unlocked screen door at the path to the outhouse thinking there would be some bad thing that would get me if I went outside. The next morning, being the only BOY, I had to pump water outside so that the adults could have their coffee.

Thanks for understanding. I didn't know about the Trail of Tears until I was in my teens. I think it's one of the untold stories that would make true progressives grit their teeth and resolve to help the forgotten peeps: American Indians.

23. I know.
I'm sorry you didn't know about the trail when you were growing up. The removal story was taught (though not very well) to us in school and it continues to shape my political experience.

Have you read Edwin Black's "War Against the Weak: America's Campaign to Create a Master Race?" Great book, but so horribly sad that you'll need to counteract it with plenty of time in nature.

8. OTHER:
The "thread killer" phenomenon is one of the few TRULY unexplained
mysteries known to mankind. Although it's a RECENT historical development,
the fact that EVERY INSTANCE of it is inherently a "matter of record"
has propelled it to the top ranks of "the unexplained" in record time.

It happens, and that's all we know for certain.
No one has ever successfully explained WHY. Yet.

For some, it happens consistently...for others, it appears suddenly,
stays for days or weeks, then disappears without a trace.

Perhaps, someday, some latter-day Einstein with a PhD in Theoretical Mathematics
will actually TURN DOWN that entry-level job on Wall Street, and devote theirself
to solving this grand mystery.

Until then, all we know for certain is that we don't know.

18. I didn't vote because there's no Other option.
I don't think you're a thread killer. You've expressed some dissenting opinions, but who hasn't? Sometimes, threads get no replies at all; could be the time of night/day that you're posting, could be that there are other burning issues being discussed, and most likely, it's because there's only one of you and about a jillion other members and threads.

Frankly, I'm actually surprised when I start a thread in GD and it gets even one or two replies. GD is a busy place, and that's just the way it goes sometimes.

And that our children will be speaking Chinese because MoveOn.org took out an ad in the paper?

Yeah, I remember you. Although I honestly can't answer your poll because I haven't decided yet if you just have a lot to learn or are intentionally trying to irritate people.

25. I don't think Patreus is a hero per se. But I was disappointed to see that he was vilified before
his words were even heard. He said in no uncertain terms that his comments were unvetted, and uncensored. If you have evidence that proves otherwise, I'll be the first to say I was wrong.

I have a lot to learn. Lifelong learning is someting I believe in with all my heart, having spent a decade as an educator.

26. I agree with your comments on learning
It is indeed a lifelong process. However, Petraeus had a long long history before he ever appeared before congress, and it isn't one to be proud of. You know as well as I do that "proving" his remarks were unvetted would be virtually impossible, but given the Bush admin's well documented history in such matters it would be quite difficult to believe they'd ever allow Petraeus to address Congress without knowing precisely what he was going to say.

24. I hear people on C-span with no formal education that sound to
me like they have real smarts. They seem to reason very well. It seems to me we have to many high educated people running things and they have no brains that they like to work. Just look at what the people who rum our auto industry has done to that and the WH has done to our standing around the world and our own govt.. So forget the high school stuff. One of the things one should learn in college is how much one does not know and do be open minded in ones views of life. Keep your job up, it is fine with me.
