"Pamper yourself," said Tony Snow to Robin Roberts re her cancer treatments on GMA today.

To her credit, Robin started talking about the cancer patients who can't afford a test to diagnose their cancer much less take care of themselves the way people (like herself and Snow) who have good health insurance can.

Then Tony starts saying that "we've got to find a way to get testing for people" in poor areas. Colonoscopies, for instance.

Then the subject magically changes and Tony is tearing up, talking about people who loved him.

All I could think of is a woman I worked with who cannot get health insurance because she is too poor but not poor enough for Medicaid. She and her husband have had to forego health insurance. He wound up in emergency room care for a heart attack a few months later and nearly died...

I'm sorry, Tony. REally sorry that you have cancer. Even sorrier that you cannot see the problem staring you in the face. I don't wish ill on anyone, but I can wish them enlightenment. And so I do for you, Tony. More than you know.

"we've got to do something" just doesn't hack it and Tony just skims over it so he can have his on-camera cry. If anything, he was a spokesperson, an apologist, for an administration that doesn't even want to help kids get health care, for god's sake!

She's a Mississippi native, I believe, and had plenty to say about Katrina....I think she is easier to believe in the "having empathy for others" department....

It's too bad she had to join in the love fest goodbye to Snow, but at least she got in her concern, even if Tony wriggled out pretty fast, once he realized where it could lead...

The entire time I was getting tested and treated I kept thinking of how lucky I am to have good insurance. Screw him and his crocodile tears.
