LETTER: Democrats don't believe in responsibility
http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070907/WDH06/709070723/1638/WDHopinion

I had to laugh at a recent article printed in the Wausau Daily Herald. The article was titled "Democrats Blast GOP plan to cut funds for family planning clinics."
...
The Democrats are so out of touch with reality that they actually believe some of the stupid things they say. They constantly want to take more of our hard-earned tax dollars and squander it on people who do little to help themselves.
...
What? Since when do women not have the means to prevent pregnancy? If you cannot afford to have children, do not put yourself in that position. Women have the ultimate control, but Democrats do not see it that way. Once again, no personal responsibility, the poor people cannot help themselves.
...
The bottom 50 percent of taxpayers in the United States pay less than 4 percent of the total tax burden, and yet in many cases, these are the same people constantly complaining about needing more help. See www.cato.org for the facts.
..
It's time to help yourself by first getting an education, then rolling up your sleeves and going to work. Along the way, try to make good decisions, or be prepared to suffer the consequences of your bad ones.

The paper has a place to make comments http://forums.wausaudailyherald.com/viewtopic.php?t=12598

I just can't get over the arrogance and the stupidity that some of these people have.

1. Another one of those 'poor people shouldn't have sex' idiots
Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

2. I feel some sympathy
It's clear that a lot on the right are upset at how poorly things are going for conservatism. Many, including popular commentators such as Rush Limbaugh, have chosen to withdraw into a fantasy world, where the Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot constantly or are "out of touch with reality." It's just a way of coping with the results of Bush's slash and burn approach to Government, and where that leaves Conservatism, circa 2007.

3. Ignorant twits
Let's see.

These people learn nothing about birth control via abstinence only sex ed, other than "condoms are useless and the pill kills babies". So how do they even have knowledge of birth control?

If, by chance, they have knowledge of birth control, many of them are told by their doctor or even their pharmacist that "I'm not going to dispense this as it's against my religion". They may even get a lecture about how it's sinful and baby killing to take oral contraceptives. Just going into a clinic can be a frightening experience with rabid nutbags standing outside screaming at patients trying to go in to get services. Therefore many who might otherwise get birth control are thwarted.

Then there's the fact that many people don't even have insurance to begin with. Birth control isn't free, nor is it cheap. And to expect poor people to just stop having sex simply because they don't have access to birth control (and nobody will help them get it for one reason or another) is asinine.
