Bait and Switch: Bush will NOT nominate Ted Olsen |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-13-07 11:55 AM by cali
By talking up Olsen he's getting the dems to fulminate over how unacceptable Olsen is, then when he nominates George Terwilliger, or some other awful partisan who's virtually unknown, he'll say that so and so is a sterling non-partisan candidate. It'll be another lie, but it's not a stupid tactic. Fortunately, I don't think Leahy or the other dems on the JC will fall for it. It'll just make for a tactically tougher battle.

2. The Dems ought to send him a short list |
|
And automatically kill the nomination of anyone not on it.

5. I wouldn't assume that they haven't done this |
|
In any case, this is all academic because Leahy has reiterated, as recently as yesterday; no subpoenaed info, no hearing. For any candidate.

7. No way lieberman would take it |
|
He'd be gone at the end of 2008 and he likes the perks of his Senate office too much. He might actually have to get a job if he takes the AG now.

14. He holds the balance in the senate... |
|
although he is an "independent", if he became AG, the governor of CT appoints the temp senator until election time. the governor of ct is a repuke.
if that happens it's a 50/50 split and dickhead chaney is the deciding vote.

6. Isn't that how we got GONZO and Roberts? |
|
Nominate someone so wrong for the job even the repukes couldn't approve, then go for the original choice who is just as evil but not quite as well known.

10. sure, but now we have dems in charge of the Judiciary |

instead of repukes. And yes, it makes a huge difference.

8. olsen is the sacrificial lamb. |
|
going to shoot high so then he can get someone who is clearly nuts but not so nuts on the outside. Which in fact is much worse.
I'm still holding out that moron* will put liebermans name in the bucket.
if he does that, everything changes in the senate dramatically.
suddenly the dems won't have majority anymore, not that it has done much good to begin with.

15. Hell yeah, I see it happening. |
|
got to remember, for lieberman it's all about "me". He has stars in his eyes to help control policy. Granted I'm not saying it's based in reality, but then again what in this administration* of fools is?
Plus if he does get in, that gives the repukes the senate. it goes back to 50/50 when the CT governor appoints a repuke temp senator until elections (the governor is a repuke)
then chaney gets the deciding vote.

Senate. No way on earth is he trading in a job with power for one that has essentially no power. What's more, he's aware that Leahy won't give him a pass.

The Dems can't pick a worthy successor if they know the real reasons why the predecessor left, now can they?
