In Speech Tonight, Bush Will Lay Out Long-Term Plan To Stay In Iraq
Source: Think Progress

In his “eighth” major Iraq speech, President Bush will tonight endorse the Gen. David Petraeus’s plan to stay 9-10 years in Iraq, prolonging the escalation until next summer. Bush will falsely allege that he supports “redeployment” from Iraq, heralding the strategy as “a way to bring a divided America together.” From exerpts of tonight’s speech:

These Iraqi leaders have asked for an enduring relationship with America. And we are ready to begin building that relationship.

Today, NBC’s Tim Russert added further details about Bush’s “long-term commitment” to Iraq:

At the end of 2008, by the best calculations, there will be anywhere from ninety to 110,000 troops still in Iraq. And if in fact there’s going to be this long term strategic relationship, that number will necessarily have to go down, but it indicates that we are in Iraq for the long, long haul.

4. I'm actually quite pleased to hear this! Seriously. Way to go, george -
bigfooting YOURSELF!!!

Everybody will likely be talking about THIS angle tomorrow, not the "we're bringing 30-thousand troops home" part.

He just stepped on his own dick. So to speak.

And all that's going to do, for the anti-war crowd, the Dems, and wavering GOPers, is set in stone the idea that we're in there forever, INSTEAD OF GETTING OUT. Weigh 30-thousand coming home against we're in there forever. You and I both know which outweighs the other. And in a time when the mood of the country is more and more adamant about getting us OUT.

That's JUST what you should say, george. Your grandiose attempt to steal the credit for a troop withdrawal has just been run over. And canceled out. By YOU. Way to go, george! And btw, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:applause: :headbang: :woohoo:

5. Of Course we will
In the year 2000, the American people with the help of 5 men in black robes decide to take the right fork in the road. By taking that fork we decided to go for the oil. By putting oil men and corporate lackeys in charge, our course was set. The left fork would have led us to energy independence and increased research and development of renewable energy. The right fork means we will continue to lust after oil and gas. \

We have about 2% of the worlds oil reserves, and use 20-25%. Other developing countries are beginning to use more, and we are in a struggle to control what we need to carry us through to the rapture. We have gone this far toward the 20% of the worlds oil reserves that Iraq has, and we are not going to give up now.

Think of the technology that the almost 1 trillion dollars that we have invested going down the right fork in the road would have produced if we had spent that money going down the left fork.

We are now committed to the right fork, and there is no turning back. Too Bad. Why else did we allow the plundering of the antiquities in Iraq, and protect the oil ministry. We are way down the right path, and it will be almost impossible to switch paths at this point. We did not realize how hard a path the right path would turn out to be, but that is where we are. We have stirred up the hornets nest, and must continue to swat what we can as we continue forward. Sad, but I am afraid true.

This administration needs to have an agreement with the Iraq govt. to guarantee we get their oil. Sorry folks, no way out now.

6. Why are you all so surprised?
Edited on Thu Sep-13-07 09:19 PM by rocknation
The construction of the 14 military bases and the embassy right after the invasion should have been your first clue.
