Is anyone else having trouble with large parts of the Internet? Is there a mega-cyber attack...
...going on today?

My RSS Reader is not updating my News Feeds from Reuters, International Herald Tribune, New York Times, NPR, Topix.net, Frontline, and I can't get a connection with my Home page at Comcast.net either.

What's going on?

Looks like it started about 3:00pm EDT

3. Is there a way to test that?
Btw, would that effect my connection to DU, because DU seems fairly fast today.

5. I'm having the same problem...
DU loads painfully slow, but still faster than Google or Yahoo or any of the other sites I regularly visit. Personal email seems to be working fine (although my yahoo account is toast).

I just restarted the cable modem, wireless router and this computer, with no improvement.

This is actually slower than dial-up used to be.

My cable provider is Comcast and, since I see your site is on comcast as well, maybe it's their problem. I'd usually rather be shot than call tech support, but I'm getting close to that point.

I'm in Portland, btw. If you are too, maybe it's a localized condition.

11. No, I'm on Comcast.net in Atlanta, so it's not local...
...but it probably is Comcast, it usually is.

Senate Chair Takes on FTC in Net Neutrality Fight

A Senate subcommittee chairman tangled with the Federal Trade Commission Wednesday, calling into question the agency's hands-off approach to Internet regulation.

"We're headed toward a circumstance where big providers that have a lot of muscle … will set up different lanes and freeways" over the Internet and provide quicker download times or site access for those willing to pay for it, said Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-S.D., chairman of the Senate interstate commerce, trade and tourism subcommittee.

"We're concerned that regulating prematurely and perhaps on such a broad basis … really could serve to squelch this market in a way that's harmful to consumers," responded FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras, who appeared before the panel to discuss her agency's annual re-authorization.

At issue is the topic of net neutrality, which essentially guarantees equal online access so that every Web site on the Internet, whether it is a major company's portal or a homemade storefront, has the same right to speed and access. Some major Internet service providers, however, have called for a system that would allow for tiered, rate-based access.
