Kurtz: Fox News is ‘entitled’ to ‘misinform our society.’

On Wednesday, during an appearance on Glenn Beck’s CNN Headline News show, Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz said that Fox News is “entitled” to be “a cheerleader for the Bush administration” that is “misinforming our society.” Kurtz’s comments came in the context of dismissing the criticisms of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, who routinely mocks the cable news network.

Watch it at link if you can stand it~

1. And what happened to Rather reporting on an ACCURATE story of Bush's TANG service?
The ENTIRE news media attacked him relentlessly for MONTHS.

2. media rules need to be revamped. anything labeled 'news' should be required to be factual
opinion, discussion, editorial or entertainment should also be labeled.

fox 'news' would either have to stop lying or change their name.

5. If that's not worthy of scorn, why have a self-proclaimed "media critic" at all?
Edited on Fri Sep-14-07 11:04 AM by Marr
When a media outlet lies and basically functions as a PA system for a political party, they're going about as low as possible. All other media issues pale in comparison to that.

8. well, yeah--except then why do they get to claim "fair and balanced?"
Oh, yeah, cuz they're allowed to lie about that too.

And still be counted as a "news network."

Huh.

9. Wow, Kurtz really gave himself away on that one!
Hard to imagine how a so-called media critic would come to such a conclusion. Even harder to see how he'd say it out loud, knowing that to do so is to expose his complete lack of any actual values upon which to base his so-called media criticism. Although he does expose his actual bias, day in and day out. I guess that worked because he was riding the crest of the neocon wave, and anyone who could suck up to them like he could was assured a place at the table. But now that wave has crested, who knows where he'll eventually land. Let's hope it's downhill from here, at least as far as national exposure goes.

He is a perfect example of someone without an original thought in his head, who buys into the Beltway received wisdom, and just loves being part of the club.

Blech.
