Active Duty Soldiers to hold Anti-War Demonstration in Syracuse, NY (Sept 29)
http://www.neighbors4peace.org/sept29

Start: Sep 29 2007 - 11:30am
End: Sep 29 2007 - 7:00pm
Timezone: EST

Active duty soldiers from Fort Drum in Watertown, NY, members of the only active-duty chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), approached the Syracuse Peace Council to help set up a region-wide demonstration in Syracuse against the war. This demonstration will take place on September 29th, 2007 in Syracuse, NY.

Syracuse is the closest large city to Fort Drum, and on any given weekend, there are many soldiers on leave there. Fort Drum has also suffered a larger number of casualties than any other base in the U.S. These soldiers will be joined by peace and justice loving people from Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester, Potsdam, Watertown, Utica, Binghamton, Ithaca, Chatham, Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Saratoga, Cortland, Belmont and many other Western and Central New York State Communities.

Since it is being initiated by active duty soldiers, this will be an historic demonstration against the Iraq war. Soldiers everywhere will learn about it. The demonstration will build prestige for the IVAW chapter at Fort Drum. It exposes as a lie the notion that the peace movement is anti-soldier. It says to the world that soldiers, too, are against the war. It is incumbent upon the peace movement that we make this rally a success.

3. I'm sure this will be all over the liberal media.
Now if Clinton was President and something like this happened it would be live, nonstop coverage.

4. apologies for off topic
Please reconcile the current opposition to the Iraq war with
these quotes by democratic leaders.

Seriously, I'm having an argument about this and I just don't
have the spare brain cycles to devote to it.

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He
is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime
... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is
so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is
miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and
his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So
the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction
is real..."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the
capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the
missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
- President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our
purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat
posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
- President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as
he has ten times since 1983."
- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18,
1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of
weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to
countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the
weapons inspection process."
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological
and chemical weapons throughout his country."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

9. Whoever said the Democratic Party is the party of peace?

Democrats will jump on the war bandwagon given half a chance. About the only way to end this is for the people to organize as was done to end the Vietnam War.

Also, welcome to DU! :toast:

13. It doesn't matter what the Democrats say ...
The point is that with the exact same intelligence, only Bush was stupid enough to invade Iraq.

See ya troll

A bright blessing on all of these soldiers in whatever they do. :headbang:

They are carrying the message of peace while under the command of violent leadership. That is true courage and patriotism. :patriot:
