I'm away from my computer for just a few days and I now learn this?

Syria says not planning a military response to IAF air strike

By Haaretz Staff and News Agencies

The Syrian deputy foreign minister said Friday that Damascus is not planning a military response, a week after claiming that Israel Air Force warplanes bombed targets in its territory. (Click here for map).

Damascus announced last Thursday that IAF jets had violated its airspace, and had been fired upon by Syrian air defenses. Israel has refused to make any comment about the incident.

But Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faysal Mekdad warned after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Friday that growing tension could spark a violent outbreak in the region, and that Syria has the "means to respond in ways that will preserve its position of power."

1. The only reporting I saw on this was The Jerusalem Times
Which claimed the aircraft dropped their external fuel tanks. Other 'Arab' media have claimed they dropped weapons. There have been several conflicting reports, but the specific weapons used have not been identified... Yet...

4. Syria has air defenses & an air force...
If Israel dropped munitions on Syrian territory, I'm sure we'd see more conflict than what's transpired, however, why would IAF aircraft drop tanks UNLESS they were going into air-to-air combat?

7. What a load of pasture pastry.
I hope you eat every fragrant, steaming bite.

Try looking at a map sometime. And an almanac to check current statistics. Syria and Iran have land and oil. Israel has oranges, tomatoes, and tourists. And a few brilliant guns.

Syria: 19 million

Iran: 65 million

Israel: 7 million, which is less than the population of NYC

Bon appetit.

when people don't know enough about Israel to spell it correctly while maligning it. The name of the god El is included in the word.

Which in this case has the dubious achievement of being totally offensive. Rachel Corrie deserves better than to have her name bandied about to score a cheap point.

13. Is this the same incident that also violated Turkish airspace?
There is zero justification for this action. Israel is going to find out someday that Russian SAMs are nothing to laugh at.

17. The latest is that Turkey provided intelligence to Israel
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8RLDHA80&show_article=1&catnum=0

Hard to know what really happened. I'm not condoning Israel's action, just saying this is a very convoluted and complex story.

15. The MSM reported it as "Syria Shoots at Israeli Planes," and then in footnote disclosing
that the Israeli planes were over Syria dropping some type of ordinance when the Syrians took such an outrageous and aggressive action.

21. Thank you.
In case you missed it, my point was simply that it's better not to put quotes around something that isn't one. Much better to do as you just did and post the actual quotes. I knew that the initial headlines were these. This incident's been discussed for days in I/P.

26. PNAC, AIPAC,...the ties that bind US to spreading an all out war in the M.E.
Since spreading the war is politically dangerous to the neocon/corporacrats in the U.S., I wasn't surprised to hear a BLURB about Israel doing the dirty work of incitement.
